Seem to be dying. Why? Need help fast. Can't hold on much longer... - by Fidcal

Don't know why but I'm slowly dying. How do I find out what is causing it? Taking a health potion just delays it. All I can remember is I was walking along and heard a cry which I assume was myself (I don't seem to speak much) but no sign of an attacker. Only later when I wanted to fast travel it said you can't while you are taking damage. First I'd heard of it. Maybe I trod on a poison thorn or something? :eww:

Check your magical effects status page - are you suffering from a disease of some sort? Are you a vampire and taking sun damage?

Oooh! Looks like there's some blood sucking ahead! :ebil:

I think I am (a vampire.) I never wanted to be. I always wanted to be a lumberjack. Didn't even know I was till I started having nightmares. But I'm not a practicing vampire. Honest. Don't know when I got bitten but it may have been on a quest down in the hold of a ship. Can't recall if they were vampires but some sort of wierd things, ghosts or whatever. Later there was a quest to get some info about a vampire but at that time I couldn't pick the lock so that quest got shelved. Anyway, that was all ages ago. I've been around in the daytime a lot since then.
Damn, is there a way to stop being a vampire?

Yes, there's a quest to cure your afflication. Begin by asking a healer if they can help (you'll have a conversation topic about it). They'll point you to the person you need to speak to in order to get started.
Or, check (

While you are only 25% vampire, you can travel around normally during the day. The only difference are the bonusses, and the "need to feed" (to stop the vampirism going worse.) Beggars and guildmates are your friends for the latter.
At 50%, the visual effects start to be interesting and you'll want some sort of "healing breeze/mending" spell (a bit of health regeneration on self, for as long as your restoration allows) at the ready.
During the 44 days that my breton was a vampire, she bit 68 necks - call me extra cautious.

omigod. I had no idea. What have I let myself in for. First read through that thread makes it seem more complex than just giving up the last 5 or 6 quests I've completed (including the (first?) big Oblivion gate outside Bruma which took me ages to find the route) and reloading an early gamesave. Then realizing this cure is a formal quest of its own so at least one presumably is guided what to do. I'll consider my options. I have been in denial. Ignoring messages and stuff about vampirism as I had no interest in it but concentrated on the quests I was on. First thing I'll reload loads of old saves to see if I can pinpoint when it happened. But my guess is I'll probably try for the cure. Thanks for help.

If I were in your position, I'd do the same probably.
However, if you just drink some blood every day, the life as a vampire isn't so bad (plus, you have the bonusses to the attributes and skills, and immunity to paralysis.)
When I start an evil new character some day, I'll go into a vampire lair immediately and get myself infected, and then I'll stay as that until it becomes too boring or my attributes too good.

Yes, that's another option I should consider. I just resented this being imposed on me without my even realizing until it is probably too late or too impractical to load an earlier save. Other stuff has been my own choice. I don't recall any message that impressed on me the significance of what had happened. But then there is so much going on for a newbie to take in. Ho hum. I'll have to deal with it.:grr:

Well, you would have been given the 'You have been infected with X' message. Besides, it's not like it's game breaking or anything, for flip's sake. It's an inadvertant mistake any adventurer could make in Tamriel.
