Techies all over the forums -
If you would kindly suggest me what you, boys and girls, consider are the best pieces of free (100% free, no-strings attached) software out there for:
* Firewalls.
* Antivirus.
* Anti Spy/Adware.
Thanks in advance for those that take the time to answer :)

* Firewalls.
Just use firefox with adblocker plus, noscript and flashblocker. If you have Windows, Windows defender will most likely keep the smaller problems at bay, so keep it on.

* Antivirus.
Avast. Antivir might be a good bet.

* Anti Spy/Adware.
Ad-aware and super anti-spyware are both good, but I prefer the latter.

I was using AVG when I was on a Windows box, but Avast is considered better. I never had any problems with AVG, though.
If you're behind a router with a firewall, you're mostly fine. Software firewalls can be a pain in the ass for protection that's not always worth it.

bikerdude will never see this because it's in community chat.

AVG has random issues with other programs. In my case, it completely prevented me from playing Source engine games. Why? Who knows! I use Avast now, and all is better.

I used to use a combination of different freeware stuff to keep my pc safe until I realized it didn't really keep my pc safe. Not 100% percent at least.
But yeah, of all anti-virus programs I preferred Avast. Never used a custom firewall, just Firefox with a couple of add-ons and regular windows protection stuff, like TTK12G3 said. As for spyware, I used Spybot.

And leave no backdoor holes, including the duck rear guard.
BTW even when out of curiosity and just to be able to play some old windoze games I use Ubuntu I use a firewall, firestarter.
In windoze I use Comodo firewall 3.0 (it's free like firestarter).
NOD32 and Firefox noscript+adblock.

1. Windows Firewall is sufficient. Of course I'm assuming you're behind a hardware firewall/router... right?
2. Not sure about free anti-virus solutions. At home I use Clamwin, but the free version doesn't automatically scan files as you run them. Only other ones I know of are AVG and Avast.
3. The best free anti-malware software are Ad-aware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Spybot Search and Destroy is really good, too, especially if you use Internet Explorer (which you shouldn't, anyway...). Remember that you can [usually] have more than one anti-malware program installed at the same time, unlike anti-virus programs.
