(
http://www.nexusmagazine.com/articles/SecretWar1.html) Britain's Secret War in Antarctica
"At the end of World War II, Britain sent a covert mission to investigate anomalous activities near its secret base at Maudheim in eastern Antarctica and to seek out and destroy a subterranean Nazi haven."
This article about the secret Nazi base is brilliant! It describes how the British sent a force to Antartica to destory the last remains of the third Reich in their sinister underground research base. It sounds like the origional plot of Bioshock!
Quote:
The mystery of who or what the Polar Men were was explained, not satisfactorily but explained nonetheless, as a product of Nazi science
The whole website is ace, its full of these crazy stories all with references and purporting to be true.
I was thinking back to an interview on DeusEx where they said the inspiration was "What if all the conspiracy stories were true, all at once.". If they ever make a DeusEx 3 they should use the Secret Nazi Antarctic Base.

Your article reminds me of an old WWII movie that for the life of me I can't remember the name of, I watched it while suffering the ill effects of food poisoning in Malta on the hotel TV and it was about a bunch of American soldiers who are searching for an arctic base. It was pretty good.

Wow, spooky. I wonder if Matthew Reily just blatantly stole that idea to write his second novel, Ice Station. About a secret underground nuclear research facility in Antartica

Matt Reilly doesn't steal; he just elaborates on a theory!
:p
(Though I really wish he wouldn't have killed off Gant in one of his later books. :( )
I find it rather amusing that such big fusses are made over the Nazi's secret bases, experiments, etc., when our own government's clandestine experiments are glossed over if not downright covered up.
1932 -
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study 1935 -
The Pellagra Incident1942 -
Chemical Warfare Services begins mustard gas experiments on approximately 4,000 servicemen.1945 -
Project Paperclip is initiated. The U.S. State Department, Army intelligence, and the CIA recruit Nazi scientists and offer them immunity and secret identities in exchange for work on top secret government projects in the United States.1946 -
Patients in VA hospitals are used as guinea pigs for medical experiments. In order to allay suspicions, the order is given to change the word "experiments" to "investigations" or "observations" whenever reporting a medical study performed in one of the nation's veteran's hospitals.1947 -
The CIA begins its study of LSD as a potential weapon for use by American intelligence. Human subjects (both civilian and military) are used with and without their knowledge.1950 -
Department of Defense begins plans to detonate nuclear weapons in desert areas and monitor downwind residents for medical problems and mortality rates. And the list goes on.
