the first time i played this game, i was running win2k and using a voodoo2 ... my ATi card sucked too hard under win2k to make DX run playably, even with all the settings low and crappy. it looked good with the voodoo2, but because the drivers are suck, it kept locking up (unrecoverably), especially during the last few levels. because i would only have between precious few 10 minutes to a couple of hours of play, right after the ocean lab i activated the cheats and just finished the game to get closure to the story. it made me angry ... i was also tired of the constant infiltrate-retrieve-escape missions, but enough about that.
now i'm running winxp and have a TNT2 Ultra (which i got in a trade). i can't use the voodoo2 any more so i tried with my TNT2 ... it works fabulously. i can run it in 800x600x32 with detail textures and everything all turned up, and i get much better framerates than i ever did with my other setups. :thumb: more importantly, it'll be as rock-solid as it can get, being an old-skool Unreal game and all. hopefully i'll be able to give it a fair chance this time around ...

1st time I played it, the game was running like a charm on 1024x796x16 and full details even on my old 3dfx Banshee.

Yeah, Unreal was made for Glide. It's too bad that API wasn't continued; it kicked the snot out of DirectX and OpenGL for gaming at the time.
I'm also reading "The Man Who Was Thursday" before I play it through again ... hopefully it will be a more enlightening journey. :)
