Indeed, I was mostly surprised by the fact that the teaser is actually watchable; it all comes down to expectations, I guess. While it does seem like they're departing from the junkyard look of the previous movies, they have released a piece of concept art that's a little more closer to what we are used to seeing. Also, from my understanding the movie is set a few years after judgment day, but John Connor is still supposed to be in his 30s. If I remember correctly, most of the future war segments from the previous movies place him in his 40s. On the other hand, the time line has also been all fucked up.

Even more so if you put Sarah Chronicles into the mix

I liked everything in firefly except the space-cowboy thing.
Personally I would like to see a revival of the Star Trek franchise... Most of Genes stuff has been butchered by his wife that wouldn't even take his name until after he died. And the Writers haven't helped much either. DS9 could've been so amazing the last 3 seasons, the story was epic, but the writing was terrible.
I'd like to see A new Star Trek Series thats dark and gritty like Firefly and the new Battlestar Galactica.
.. Something tha tonly runs for maybe 3 or 4 seasons in its entirety and doesn't drag on and on for an extra 3 years 'just cause'

That's what Deep Space 9 and Enterprise were frequently touted as being, even though they really weren't. DS9 kinda managed it from time to time. It did have more complex politics; people who don't like each other and have to get along and things. But that was helped along by competing with Babylon 5 more than anything, I reckon.
You can't go too gritty or you lose the trekkies or the studio or somebody.
(really they've had years and years of wars with Romulans or whatnot and does it ever get explored? Nope. It's all Borgs and time travel and one offs. They could've gone all Battlestar on it years ago (and I'd love to see it), but I think it's generally held that that kind of thing just isn't Trek.)

Which is exactly why It needs to happen. imho.
Cause we're not in the Cold War anymore, the original series was a way to combat the feelings of the animosity towards the Sovs and the Japanese. I think that if you were to keep with the original spirit of Star Trek, they'd make it relevant for todays times. Not happy-feely-make-us-realize-one-day-we-can-al-co-exist of the original series.
Thats just my take anyway. I've always been a trek fan. and if Im a fan and this is what I want to see I must not be alone.

While it is worded in an extremely retarded way, it isn't an inaccurate description of the Terminator played by Franco Columbu in the first movie. Yes, it was established from the very start that not all Terminators look like Arnold.
Well, Franco Columbu's model is a T-800, which is also shorter than Arnold. So while that model is still a muscle-bound infiltrator (that just happens to be effortlessly hefting around a mini-gun, which obviously is
not helping it to blend in) - at least it doesn't stick out quite so much like an eight-foot tall behemoth, with obviously false skin.
That part of the film always bothered me a little bit. Sure, that Terminator was hiding the mini-gun underneath a robe it was wearing. But damn, if Connor's men weren't incompetent for not spotting an unusually large, muscular survivor who was concealing a weapon under an obviously oversized robe.
I guess they were trying to show that the soldiers had become extremely worn down and fatigued, in order to make that mistake. I guess I can buy that.
As for the T4 trailer, I had the same reaction as a lot of you. Meh. It doesn't look like a Terminator film to me. I don't have high hopes for it.

Agreed, the eight-foot tall and false skin part doesn't really apply to the Franco Columbu model; I guess I was more focused on the gatling laser/plasma gun. Funny this is that I realized by mistake shortly after posting it, and really should have added additional qualifiers to the sentence in order to properly reflect the partial inaccuracy.

As for Star Trek, I've really never been able to get into DS9. Ultimately, I find the writing far too blunt and overt; much like the Battlestar Galactica remake. It's one thing to use similar situations from our past as models for conflict, it's another thing to shoehorn it into the plot and characters so much that only a retard wouldn't be able to make the connection. I really got excited when I heard about the concept of Enterprise and imagined a show following a crew of a relatively crude starship that ended up fucking things up more than they helped. Kirk always described that era as a time of crude, nuclear weapons, starships, subspace radio instead of viewscreens, and Humans that had a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later. That time period would have established the Human conflict with the Klingons and Romulans, the nature of the Human-Vulcan alliance after first contact, the establishment of the prime directives, and the return of the classic Trek races. Unfortunately, Enterprise only touched upon a few of these things. Once I got past that though, I was able to enjoy Enterprise from what it was. Some of the information released from the aborted Star Trek: The Beginning sounded interesting, but could have easily been messed up in the execution.

I really don't see the point in T4 set when it is. The whole point of Terminator 1 and 2 was the unstoppable machine that chases you relentlessly in a world with tech that was largely ineffective against it. T3 still had that but it was just soooo badly done. This new thing will remove that terror of the unstoppable. It's like Matrix Reloaded - one the agents were vulnerable they were no longer any fun. Bah.

That's very true. I do find, however, that the future wars setting does has potential for some nice character drama. Nothing like having an individual who was told from the moment that he's born that he's the savior of the human race. With the stakes that high, how the hell would anyone be able to cope with the pressure? Action is nice and all, but I always found that the main draw with Terminator for me is the characters. Plus, I was always a sucker for the (

So after redrain85 went on about giving this show a second chance earlier, I decided to watch the premiere tonight. I have to say that I did enjoy it for the most part, barring a few exception that I'll bitch about later. I guess the best thing I can say about the season 2 premiere is that there were times when I definitely felt like I was watching The Terminator. I wasn't as impressed by John's little stunt near the end, I was really hoping the people behind the show would have had more balls than that. Ultimately, it wasn't completely unexpected; but I was hoping for something more, though. The final kill was completely gratuitous and unnecessary, there was probably a half a dozen other ways for that scene to play out that would have allowed the twist to remain intact. I am guilty of having a tiny smirk of satisfaction on my face, however.

2x01 Bitch List:
-Cameron can instantly tell the gender of a drop of blood's host by looking at it?! Hell, this might be the only time when I wish they took a page out of T3's book and did the whole blood tasting thing.
-More extremely rare prototypes coming out of the woodwork. The movies always gave the impression that Skynet was pulled offline not too long after sending the original assassins through the time displacement equipment, since it was a very last resort and a long shot at best. Sending shit through takes a tremendous amount of energy, when would it have had the time and resources to send so many things on various missions?
