What the fuck? If these reports are true, who the hell thought that this would be a good idea?
I lost any interest in Bryan Singer's works after that god awful Superman movie. Also his X-men films weren't anything to write special. Perhaps he's like Tobe Hooper and Lee Tamahori, where lightning only struck once? Honestly The Usual Suspects owes much of it's success to the tight script and the casting, IMO.

Agreed. We just had the conclusion of an amazing interpretation of BSG...and now they want to go back and revisit the 70's incarnation? Blah.

You might not have liked it, but it was an excellent film. It was a very thoughtful and mature take on Superman. My wife and I loved it, as did many of my friends who are Superman fanatics. Maybe it appealed to older folks. I appreciated that it wasn't just a big, noisey, popcorn flick.

producer 1 - "why the fuck should we do that?"
producer 2 - "money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money money "
producer 1 - "we're on!"

I think you had to be a Superman fanatic to like that one.
I wouldn't call it bad, but it was interminably dull, poorly acted and didn't even grapple with its own philosophical themes very well. Mostly a dull retread of the first film's plot, only Lex's ambitions increase merely in scale instead of intelligence. Wasn't a big fan of creepy stalker superman either.
As reboots go it was ok and should have been a decent kick off for a series (provided they kill off Lois as soon as possile. Better yet, recast her with Maggie Gillenhall and then kill her off. I don't think singer liked her very much. See the way he throws her around the out of control plane Raimi style?). Routh is good. But the damn thing cost more money than the pyramids and it aint on screen (the stuff on the boat really isn't very well lit as green screen jobs go).
Anyway, I generally like Singer's attention to character in things, but he's visually bland and really has no business shooting action either. Still, I think he probably has heard such criticism before and so recommended Ratner for Xmen 3 just to remind people that there is worse.

I disagree strongly with both of your opinions.

I wasn't a fan of the new Superman either, but IMO both X-men films (before Brett Ratner raped it) were easily among the best comic book movies out there. And he's a producer on House (I believe he directed the pilot and perhaps a few more episodes) so he gets points back there.

I would want this movie to happen just so I can witness the fan rage.

Frankly, I think the TV series ran on too long for its own good. I certainly have no appetite for MORE BS:G.
Honestly, Obama should just drop this health care stuff and urge congress to pass a limit on the number of remakes per year.
Fafhrd on 17/8/2009 at 03:37
This one isn't a remake, though. This is going to be a direct sequel to the original Glen A. Larson series. And it's a stupid, stupid idea that's only getting any studio traction because of the name recognition and critical plaudits of Moore's remake series.
Aerothorn on 17/8/2009 at 04:09
Also, even if the movie somehow ended up being good, it would confuse the hell out of most of its audience. The general public doesn't know jack shit about the original BS:G, not that there's really any reason they should.
