This search delay
for members is annoying.

This forum requires that you wait 20 seconds between searches. Please try again in 1 seconds.
I don't know how often I've seen this.
I know that searching puts a strain on the server. But being able to search efficiently is what keeps people from posting redundant threads. And at least where I hang out (shock forums) we get a lot of that.
Not being able to search at all when you're not a member is equally annoying. A delay would be appropriate here.

Agreeing with this.

Hmm, I do find it to be slightly annoying as well to not be able to search when I'm logged on, and feel allowing a search, without membership requirements would be useful. However, it seems to be a necessary nuisance, and little more. If the delay function allows to avoid putting quite as much strain on the server, then it should be used. Though, I must ask, what would possibly posess you to make several searches at the same time, do you honestly need to make multiple threads at once? And, what's wrong with 20 damn seconds? You make it sound like it's telling you to wait an hour. If someone is not patient enough to wait a mere 20 seconds before making a second search prior to making a thread, the person was rather likley an idiot in the first place. The main problem, if any at all, is the people who don't even USE the search function prior to making a thread.
Just saying....

The problem occurs when you search for something and then realize that you need to change the keywords to get the topic you want.
Maybe everyone else always has the right keywords in mind. I don't.

I can probably bring the time between searches down a bit, probably to sub 10 seconds.
Searching while not logged in won't happen, though.

It would be especially nice if there was some javascript to automatically resubmit the original query after the timeout has expired. That, and show the countdown actually, well, counting down.
I'm pretty sure I could run something up in half an hour that would do so if desired.

That would help a lot. :)

Okie dokey, I have knocked the time between searches down to 5 seconds. Hopefully this should be ok for most people! :)

OK by me. :D
