Well, on Tuesday I was told that I didn't have a job anymore. In local government. This was the end of another "restructure" in which quite a few people lost their jobs or got demoted. I had to go through an interview for the job I was already doing, and apparently I suddenly don't have the skills or experience to do it anymore.
Initially I was a bit pissed off, but I've probably been pushed out to get into a better situation, however inconvenient that may be.
Still, this was my first job, and the first one that I've been reorganised out of so it's a bit of a surprise, given that the work I do isn't actually redundant. It's just been cut to look like the local authority is making "savings".
Anyway, time to move on and get a proper job, but I doubt it's ever much fun to suddenly find you have no employment.

I wonder if its possible to make a living doing solely guinea-pig-style tests for medical instituions. That would be the life.

I'm sorry, scumble. I've been in that situation before and it sucks. I hope you are able to find a better job soon.

Tough break Scumble, dear wife is going thro' a similar process although she is looking for redundancy. It might be worth your while to look at (

I'm really sorry to hear that (having just recently myself ventured into the great land of opportunity that is unemployment), but is it wrong of me to get a laugh out of the idea of someone so sympathetic to anarchy being let go from a government job?
On the plus side, your job being eliminated brings you one step closer to your goal of downsizing the government. It's not much but it's a silver lining. ;)

Maybe he was sympathetic to anarchy BECAUSE he held a government job. Obviously anarchy was already working! :cheeky:

Don't worry, I see the funny side myself. Probably a good thing really. I think I'll be going into contracting now...
Did you get laid off or just quit?

That is great.
