OK, last resort guys. I've been going round and round with this. I'd post a screen shot, but, I can't. Fraps won't capture what I need, as well as other ways won't capture either.
The scrolls won't display properly, the text is all blurry. In trying to read books, which are hit and miss, I can't find a book to read that doesn't have the proper book texture right now.
I've disabled and enabled, wide screen patch, tweaked the DDFix, installed the new DDFix, and at least I have fog working, somewhat now. :) Thats a good thing. We looked at safe texture manager. Installed an older driver, nothing works.
Ever since I installed Vista SP2, things have changed, and it sucks. :( Yeah I can go in the Thief folder and read that way, I don't want to, and shouldn't have to. I can kinda sorta read the scrolls, but my eyes bleed after awhile, its not pretty. :P
This shot is taken with a digi camera. Again, nothing would capture this.

http://modetwo.net/users/brokenarts/borkedread.jpgI still need to find an actual book in game, and check it. All the books I've found have scroll textures!
[Edit], went into the Rose Cottage, up in the study/office, there was a proper purple book sitting on the desk, and the books read just fine.[/Edit]

If you revert to Original Thief 2 in Darkloader, is there still a \books folder left behind in your T2 folder? If so, delete it and that should fix the problem. Otherwise, I'm at a loss.

YES!
Thank you Russ! I appreciate it. :D Fog and readables work, I'm happy.

Question remains, why did that help?

btw I found Irfan View could screenshot books/maps/menu screens etc.

Those were book files left behind from a FM which were overriding the default images, and had a palette that wreaked havoc with the default fonts.
That's good to know, Namdrol.

OK, thank you both! :) Good info.
