I think you can save any triggerscripts greater than TS_4250.tsd (that's when the OM scripts stop) in the TriggerScript\Defs & you might want to save the TriggerScript\Organize folder as well.

Well, I don't know why it was happening, but I found a workaround. I'm flipping a flag instead of sending a trigger message, and the other script just listens for the flag to change to the desired state. This way it seems to be working fine, doesn't fire when it shouldn't.
I can only guess there is something either broken in my install, or there's a bug when items in the inventory are used to send trigger messages. I don't think they did it that much in the OM's (if at all), but I haven't looked too closely.
