Hello!
I was wondering if it is possible to copy the scouting orb item (together with the sounds, physics, any other necessary data etc.) from Thief 2 to Thief Gold. And if it is possible, can someone direct me to some resources or tutorials?

I wonder if Thief Gold has the player model in it like Thief 2 does; where in T2 you can look back and see yourself from the orb? If T1 doesn't have that, you might consider adding that, too, in case you hadn't considered.
I don't know how to get the orb in T1, but I've also thought it would be neat to have there; even if nothing more than a novelty.
I wonder if there's a T1 fan mission that has it in...

Well, I don't want to break your hopes but the Scouting Orb works not just with some models and an animation but it also depends on a specific script located in the gen.osm for ThiefII which is NOT compatible with Thief Gold (it may makes some objects/traps/AIs working wrongly or just not working at all).
It would require a custom script, a custom motdb (the avatar's animation), a mesh model named "garrett" and the scouting orb model. Add to that several other objects to set such like the "camera grenade flash" and potential metaproperties (not sure about those tho). Anyway, if you are not experienced enough with Thief resources and scripting, I fear you might have to make your mission without such an item.

Ask if you can turn the scouting orb into a thermal detonator instead. It's pretty much useless in its current state.

This is actually not especially difficult to implement. Everything other than setting up the scripts and relevant archetypes is simply a matter of copying resources. (

I do not know what you intend to do exactly, but if you want to include scouting orbs in your mission or just want to fiddle with them, perhaps this will be of use.

Thanks for the replies all. I only noticed that it appears twice in Editor's Guild but I think my original thread was moved here after I was informed that this is the correct forum to ask my question. Thanks for the link, the responses and the explanations. And no, I'm not doing any FMs. My only curiosity was whether the Scouting orb can be implemented in Thief Gold as a buyable and usable equipment before missions.
