Twitter is a communication tool, nothing more. Don't mistake boring or unimaginative friends for a lacking in the medium.
Same goes for Facebook, YouTube, blogs, etc.

Personally, I don't blog about everything in my life, but I do blog when I want to express my opinion about something, or when I just want to get something off of my chest. I don't do it for attention, although it's nice that I do get comments occasionally cheering me up, expressing differing opinions, etc.
I can totally respect that, and see that as a good thing. It's when people put more effort and emphasis into "mass electronic communication" to gain the approval of someone - whom they've never met in real-life - in Zimbabwe than actually picking up the phone and talking with someone important on a one-on-one basis that I get nervous.
I'm just one of these weirdoes that worries that we are slowly losing our humanity through our technology.

Gotcha. I see where you're coming from.

Agreed. Although I'm a little strange in that regard; I prefer talking to people face-to-face than calling them on the phone, for instance, but I also prefer e-mail to the phone and face-to-face because I can carefully plan out what I want to say so I don't stick my foot in my mouth or stumble over my words like I sometimes do in real-time communication.

I watch 'Sci-Fi Channel Original Premiers' to see how bad they are. Pretty terrible stuff.

All those low budget direct-to-video films and the like actually make a shit load of revenue through rentals and Pay TV airings.
For example, why do you think Steven Seagal keeps making so many DTV films? His pay cheque is 1 million USD minimum per film.

Kinda makes you wish MST3K was still around, don't it?

the rise and fall of syfylisation

In other news, when I went home this past weekend I wrote SyFy on the back of a Ruby Tuesday's coaster and asked my mom to pronounce it. With no prior knowledge of this announcement, she actually pronounced it "Sci-Fi." After seeing the look of surprise on my face, she reminded me that she has a Master's degree in elementary education and has taught phonetics in the school system for years. In English, when you see a word that ends with a y preceded by a consonant, it's usually pronounced as a long i (as in my, why, pry) instead of as a short e (as in syphilis). Yes, SyFy is all one word, but the capital F apparently should influence how you pronounce it.
She did, however, grant that there could be pronunciation confusion.
When I told her that SyFy was the new name for the Sci-Fi channel, she also agreed that it was ridiculous.
