Some time during the next week we will be closing the forums for a (hopefully short) period of time to upgrade them to the shiny new version of (
http://www.vBulletin.com) vBulletin which has just been released.
Hopefully I'll be able to give you a little notice in advance, but the forums may disappear. If you're lucky I'll put up a page telling you that the upgrade is taking place. If you're not lucky all you'll see is a username and password box when accessing the forums.
If you do see one of these boxes don't put your forum username and password in as it won't work!
The new version of vBulletin will give us some new features, including on-the-fly message editing, meaning that you don't need to go to a seperate page to edit your post, you'll be able to edit it in the thread.
We'll also get an improved search engine that should give better results and allow some logic operations for those of you who are into that sort of thing.
There are some other bits and pieces as well as general improvements across the board. Yay! \o/
If you've got any questions ask them here!

Hopefully we'll also be rid of the dreaded 'YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS THEAD' boldness. BUT I HAVE! I HAVE! DAMN YOU! :)
Good luck with your tomfoolery.

That we will. There are several new methods for tracking which threads you have read and which you haven't. It should be in real time with the results saved to your profile in the database.
Which is nice.

I get a kind of inverse, where all threads I have not read are unbolded after I read a single thread. But it never bothered me too much.

You're new around here aren't you? We don't go for that pansy-ass crap like backups. Jeez.
David on 30/9/2005 at 18:28
Testing was done with release candidates.
I shall be running a month old backup of the forums on my machine over the weekend in order to get the style and customisations complete.
And yes, backups will of course be made :p

Can it really be called "scheduled downtime" when you don't know when it will be? :ebil:
