I feel like a turd because I have been saying "She's been very ill for a LONG time" and so on, but in my heart this is a breaker. We are running out of figureheads, celebrities who earned their status, who kept their status through hard work and awesome results, not these idiots who fill the newspapers' "entertainment" sections these days. Aretha Franklin was an unimaginably strong woman and her death (while not unexpected nor unreasonable) is jarring.
I grew up on blues, Motown, Chess Records, and the whatnot. My life feels shorter lately.
