Hi all,

new to the forum but avid lover of them good old Thief games and now exploring Arx. Or trying to...

I got a copy and played it unpatched (v 1.13) until i had some problems with savegames disapearing on me. So i did some homework online and and patched to v 1.17 (1.18 broke the game for some reason.)

This was the result:

With 1.13 im ok as long as i dont overwrite a saveslot once ive used it. But i understand the game cant be finished unpatched and would hate to not be able to finish it.

With 1.17 im farked. Savegames (including quicksaves) just disapear randomly, and frequently, whatever i do.

So i thought what the heck, since i really want to play this game, got a steam account and bought arx from there, to see if the savegame problems would have been fixed to v 1.18.

They had not. Its the exact same as with 1.17.

So, now i have two questions:

First, does anyone have a fix for this as it appears in v 1.17/1.18? Ive found some thoughts on forums that did not work out so if you got a solution for this please give specific directions!

If not, am i right in assuming that playing Arx unpatched is meaningless, since there are too many bugs, or is it possible to experience most of the game and just not be able to kill some last mega-beast and get a cutscene?
