I lost my savefiles for Morrowind and would like to start with a character that had similar attributes and level. There used to be a great savegame editor that let you modify all the numbers. Any clues as to where I might find it?

No, this is not the one. I used to have one (but lost it) that could change all numbers. I am surprised I can't find it anymore.

I do not know what utility you are alluding to, but I cannot imagine anything easier and more trouble-free that just updating your statistics through the console [~]
