Well that was worth the entrance fee :D
Ok, the movie is going to change no one's opinion. Way I see it, the internet's split into 3: Cynics, people who just don't get it, and people who buy into it. And everyone in each group is going to have the same opinion of the movie after seeing it as they did beforehand. So if you still lol at the concept, gtfo and watch. If not, whine and moan about how it's a boring old joke. Have fun.

How is "cynics" different from "people who don't get it"?
Paz on 20/8/2006 at 16:26
It is presumably the difference between not understanding a joke/concept/plot/etc, and understanding a joke/concept/plot/whatever but thinking it's a bit weak or not very interesting.
MY DOG HAS NO NOSE
HOW DOES IT SMELL?
AWFUL!
1). An excellent jape, sir!
2). Noses, dogs, what?
3). I see what you did there, but I wish I couldn't.
On that basis though, I think Shevers' categories would loosely apply to pretty much any film. Which is fair enough, really.

Every discussion about this movie revolves around making it an ingroup/outgroup thing. There's really nothing else to say about it.

Of course not, as Shevers' categories only deal with one's personal taste. Equally (if not more) important is how close the movie comes to hitting the mark it's aiming for. Snakes On a Plane sold me on its awesome premise and attitude, but what made it worth seeing is the fact that the movie fucking delivered. Snakes On a Plane fulfilled its promise almost perfectly, and was quite possibly the most fun I've had at the movies this year.

I thought his theory was "pre-viewing" and expectation-based only, but I could have been wrong there.
Obviously yeah, you ultimately need the "I have expectations of this flick" in combo with "and they were met, hooray!"
Shevers on 21/8/2006 at 18:16
I was simply saying that the movie wasn't going to change the opinions of anyone who saw it - because it delivered exactly what everyone expected/hoped. No one will be surprised, and those sick of it or those who don't see the point aren't going to be surprised by what they see.

Top movie, delivered exactly what I expected: fun and laughs.
I await the followup: Frogs in a Fridge with bated breath.
"i am sick of these MOTHERFUCKING frogs coming out of my MOTHERFUCKING fridge"
Where S.Jackson is in a batle against thousands of poisonous/randy nepalese frogs.
