I just modded the latest ATI Catalyst drivers (7.12) to get them to run on my laptop ((
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/)) and now I have PERFECT FOG! I tested in Dwelling Insanity, compared to the crappy old "wall of fog" effect. I'm a very happy taffer today!!!
Amazing! Proper working fog again after all this time!

Hrrm, had to install the .NET 2.0 Framework to get that thing to run; at least 2.0 isn't as bloated as 3.5, which seems to be 200mb :erg:
This is important enough that it should have its own thread...
Also, any reports on if Thief 2 still looks awful on the 3850 / 3870 series cards?

I'll be honest, didn't read half 3rd and entire 4th page.
I downloaded all the 5 available 1.1 rage3d tweak versions (8, 9, 10, 11, 13), installed any of them. My catalyst showed "Rage 3d Enhanced", but it didn't show their controls where they were supposed to be shown. Checked CCC all upside down, but nothing ><. Just the ''logo''...
I really can't figure out what did i miss. If it's something very silly, i'll kick my own ass...
Take this screen to feel into the situation, please.

Should've read a bit further, methinks.
The big news is that from about 7.11 on, the native ATI driver will render fog correctly. No tweaks needed, no messing with W fog, Table fog, or anything like that.
Even better news is that ddfix not only gets us good looking fog, but a host of other valuable features as well, so check out the ddfix thread.

Sorry for the ol' necromancy (spiffy term, btw), but I'm in a bit of a fix with the Radeon fog issue.
I play T2 on a Toshiba laptop with a Radeon X1250 graphics chip.
The driver that is natively installed doesn't seem to render the fog (I tested it in LotP), but when I try to install the latest Catalyst version from the ATI website, it messes up the driver entirely, changing the type (supposedly) to X1200 series, and messing up the display in full screen games. I was forced to uninstall it and switch back to the previous driver, but I'd still like to get that fog working.
I've sent ATI a ticket about the installation issue, but I was wondering if any of you can help me with a suggestion.
thanks!

have you tried downloading the catalyst 8.12 driver and see if that fixes it..?
Qwallath on 17/12/2008 at 18:37
Yes, that is the one I tried to install, but it didn't install correctly.
Apparently it's not compatible with my particular video card. However, the latest drivers provided by the laptop manufacturer are way behind ATI's own updates. At least, the fog doesn't work with my current driver, nor can I install the (outdated) Rage3d thingy you add on to older versions (5.X?) of Catalyst.
bikerdude on 17/12/2008 at 20:02
Whats the the latest version you have managed to download from the manufacturer..?
Qwallath on 17/12/2008 at 20:19
Thanks for the speedy help, but I managed to fix it after all... :D
I'm not sure which version it was, but after a complete uninstall of all video drivers and a complete reinstall of the version Toshiba supplied it's now finally working!
Apparently updating wasn't enough, and a reinstall was necessary. But I can confirm fog works with Radeon X1250 and the latest drivers.
