A few days ago, and before I installed the new Safari 4 beta, Safari stopped loading apple.com. The site loads up on Firefox, not instantly, but after a few seconds, on the same Macbook Pro, and on the PC using Chrome.
If I remove all cookies set by apple.com and flush the Safari cache, the site loads up fine, but stops loading after a few minutes. When I remove the cookies and flush the cache, it loads up again.
My question is: WTF??
halp!

Its a beta.... LOL
Ok, Ok... you need to remove the following files from the " \users\<yourname>\library\preferences\ " folder
* the ' com.apple.Safari.plist ' file
* the ' safari ' folder
- but dont forget to backup the ' bookmarks.plist ' (its has all your favorite internet links) from the safari folder before nuking it.

Thanks for the tips, but they didn't resolve the problem. I thought they might, too. But like I said, this problem existed before I installed the Safari 4 beta.
Something odd going on here :/

* Ok fire up terminal and try and ping (
www.apple.com) - come back with the results
* create another user account with admin rights and try to browse to apple.com from that account - come back here with the results..

We've already done the ping, traceroute and even a telnet to make sure it connects and retrieves HTML correctly. Indeed, in the post it even says that the site loads up on the same machine in Firefox.
I'm of the opinion that it could be an image or a JS file that it's getting stuck processing. Try turning off JavaScript and/or images.
Another account would be worth trying, if only to eliminate the possibility.

I know sometime it sounds like Im asking people to suck eggs, but as with most tech requests on here people dont always do them and/or it doesnt get mentioned it in the thread.
AS we have both concluded loggin into a fresh profile will show if its corrupt file etc. One other thing to try is before loading Safari is to run Activity monitor and if any proccess are hogging CPU time - same as task manager on a pc, and this may help further the diagnosis.

Echoing Dave, we've tried the usual suspects. I even went as far as to try different MTU values on my router and Mac, but those had no effect.
Logs show nothing, nothing's hogging the cpu, either. I also tried disabling JavaScript and Images, allowed pop-ups, to no avail.
The site loads fine today, which is yet another odd thing in this. Let's see for how long. Nothing has changed since yesterday.
I actually had a similar thing happen earlier, with LinkedIn. The site stopped loading for a few weeks, or loaded up after a 10 minute delay. All other sites at the same time worked just fine. LinkedIn on the same Mac, only using FF, loaded fine. There may be a connection between these two issues.
Next time the site stops loading, I'll try a different account.

It could be the router dying, my 3com started doing this and when I replaced it, the problem went away.

It sounds like your computer isn't turned on.
Check the wall outlet to see if you've pulled the cable out by mistake. If it's plugged in, make sure your power supply is turned on. If that's on too, press the power button on your mac and wait til the OS loads.
If none of the above helps, then clearly you've forgotten to pay for your internet access and the provider has cut you off. :idea:
