So hows about this story ANNA CHAPMAN then fellas? 10 (I think it's 10) "deep" ANNA CHAPMAN cover Russian spys have been unearthed in the USA. Apparently ANNA CHAPMAN they've been living there for years, just going about there lives and ANNA CHAPMAN secretly passing on information to Moscow.
I think one of them might be called ANNA CHAPMAN.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the media coverage of this here in the UK. There are 10, TEN, suspects and all I see or here when the story is on is ANNA CHAPMAN this or ANNA CHAPMAN that. Come on, she's quite foxy yeah we get it, but the entire UK media, tabloids and all? I'm surprised the female news presenters haven't had something to say about this.

It's 11, except the paymaster they arrested in Cyprus was released by a judge with no foresight and has since disappeared.
Anna Chapman is a cutie though.

I'd give her some state secrets. If you know what I mean.

I liked the part where the FBI noted they were requested to get information they could have found through a simple Google search, or just asking visiting American officials directly, and more accurately than they could ever dig up on their own. We're in an era where BBQ's with colonels just doesn't cut it anymore. And in all the years of their operation they never found evidence that a single state secret was compromised so couldn't even charge them with real spying. Something really sad and petty about the whole thing, as if the habit were so strong they spy just for its own sake. When you look at their instructions, it's hard to have any other interpretation.

Are there any consequences for actually catching a spy to the country involved? Or is it just...
USA: Ha, I caught your spies, Russia!
Russia: Drat!
USA: Ha ha! Better luck next time!
Russia: Oh, USA!
Spies: *rotting in prison forever*

Since the FBI has practically nothing on them I wonder why they thought they had to arrest them just now, only days after Barrack Obama had met with Dmitry Medvedev, as part of the friendlier policy he employs with Russia.

Serious suggestion? Whoever it was shopped the lot to the US (and it's pretty obvious someone did as it's practically impossible to break encryption without being given the keys- something as simple, common and basic practice as a one time pad defeats decryption unless you do something really dumb like reuse them, per VENONA) got nabbed by the Russians, or the Russians got wind of it some other way. Seems particularly likely since the guy who is most important in the whole thing managed to 'escape' in a laughably simple manner/ they didn't simply wait for him to actually be in the US before nabbing a ring which everything else suggests was hardly a time critical problem otherwise.

Maybe they asked way too many questions.
"Do you drop many bombs when flying over shitty countries in your B2 bomber?" Errr, nope why?
"How many nukes your country have ready for launch against Russia?" Don't know, why are you a spy or someshit?
"Do you use a secret voice encoder when receiving or sending orders to troops?" Listen lady I'm just the President ok? Nobody tells me dick around here about secrets, or alien landings, are you a spy, lady?
"Do you think like that the US would defend itself against a limited nuclear war with Russia??" Why, yes I believe so, you don't happen to be a spy or what?
"Are you positive your government won't be expelling Russian spies anytime soon?" Uh why the question aren't you a spy perhaps?
"Do you wear an American flag in your underwear? Uh hum, flag pole and all?" Lets find out miss spy wannabe, come and get it.

Yeah, the suggestion was serious. Seems at least as likely as the unknown informer who sells Russian spies to the US and consequently gets kidnapped by the Russians, who hastily try to withdraw their spies, but the FBI knows that they know and try to get there faster. Wild car chase ensues.
