Every moment you spend murdering civilians and destroying their homes is a moment not spent on destroying military targets and achieving your real objectives. While Russian forces are bogged down at Mariupol, they are not able to help anywhere else. Not to mention that acts of barbarism like that tend to turn everyone against you, even people who would have supported you otherwise.
