Some of the North Korean soldiers have even become deserters and even escaped.
Of course -- they will never get a chance like this again. If they don't have family back home that they care about, it's a no-brainer, really.
Conversely, now that they have seen what things look like outside of North Korea, they have pretty much become domestic enemies, so they are screwed either way.

sad fact : There is something “blocking” the transfer of technology process of their KF-21 program with my country. Perhaps blocking or hindering is misnomer. 'Not Authorizing' or 'not granting' might be well suited. We have been working together for a long time. The final choice falls to the Dassault Rafale or F-15ex procurement if that condition is not met.
Advanced fighter jets are 20th century machines. There is no point in investing huge resources into manned fighters in the age of autonomy.

True, unmanned combat vehicles cannot be underestimated.
Here I also accept the bitter fact and succumb to the fact that there is a story akin to the British not authorizing storm shadow because there are guidance parts made by the US there. swap that with the defense industry in the fighter jet development section. In this case South Korea does not make all the jet parts, there are several other electronic parts that are not made by Korea and we must await the approval of the country that made the electronic parts(i tought it was the export license and US did not give it either to my country or S.Korea). That's all i got

yeah it's quite sad for them

I just think of fighter jets as status symbols these days. They are astronomically expensive to develop and pretty damn expensive to produce too, so nobody can afford them in large numbers. Crews require years of training and continuing practice to use them effectively, so you have to keep them flying during peace time, and that consumes a lot of budget, people, and defense industry resources. You don't need them for precision air strikes because UAVs can do that mission now with less manpower, resources, and risk. They are the wrong aircraft type to provide air support to ground troops. And they are not well suited for defending against large-scale drone attacks like we've seen against Ukraine and Israel because of numbers. You can produce hundreds of low tech autonomous strike drones for the cost of one fighter. The air-to-air missile used to shoot down a drone costs more than the drone, and a typical fighter only carries about 6 of them. The traditional fighter missions were to intercept strategic bombers, which are obsolete, and gain air supremacy, which has to include being able to defend against large scale cruise missile and drone attacks. I see the greatly diminished role that fighters are playing in Ukraine as a sign of things to come.

Yeah military is gravitating towards drones/UAV recently, crazy times indeed. You have a drone for sigint/elint purpose, drone for surveillance purpose, drone for lightweight to medium logistic/payload, naval drone like sea baby drone made by ukraine, anti-tank drone, drone to counter enemy drone, etc. Such drones are also quite cheap to produce and can be produced on a large scale quickly

It would be (literally) crazy times than the counterstandard would be an extended use of EMPs to poison the radio frequencies.....

EMP requires nukes and it's rather indiscriminate, so it's a last ditch weapon. I'm more worried about the war extending into space, shooting down each other's satellites and rendering low Earth orbits unsafe due to the debris.
taffernicus on 24/10/2024 at 03:21
yes it will involve nukes and we are still way behind to develop things like coil guns(sounds like sci-fi eh?)

Or nuke detonation in space / atmosphere which causes satellite disruptions.
Let's hope there is no incident like in the movie Threads (1984)
Seeing anti satellite missiles flying up and f-15 equipped with ASM-135 ASAT(maximum ceiling of 60k feet) is disconcerting
