What kind of family (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor) deliberately starves its cousins to save itself? Ukrainians have every right (if not the obligation) to reject the sort of violent fraternity being "offered" by Russian mobsters.

Problem is: russian elites have descended into pure fascism after communism and now they believe violence is a GOOD THING when you picture yourself as a protector.
Messianic responsability toward all the russian speaking individuals.
So there's no turning back.
Japan (nothing compared to Russia) to see that emperor was no god to die for.....needed 2 nukes.

We're losing this war. Our beloved and high-esteemed government has sold almost all heavy Soviet equipment (and we had a lot of that machinery) and USA/EU are not able or not willing to provide anything in significant quantities. So we just sit in the trenches, waiting for the shell to catch. At least this is this way in my (32nd) brigade.
Sorry, I don't have any fun or heroic stories to share.
I am sorry our Western governments aren't doing enough to save Ukrainian liberal democracy :(
Their spineless cowardice is empowering despots everywhere and destabilising the world.

I'm sure history is going to be as merciless to this generation of Western leaders as we are about Chamberlain.
I was watching a story today about possible unrest in (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yki6pigUbfw) Kaliningrad in the near future shaking up the status quo in at least Europe. It's a little more on their doorstep, as if Ukraine holding back the Bear in the backyard weren't doorstep enough.

Your adversaries are in no better shape really. But you probably know that.

It's not only that. That's a minor aspect in fact. USA and UE can't win just throwing more weapons in the grinder (remember ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas+Hezbollah....etc. etc. etc.).
The problem was born in the '90s when the old (KGB/NKVD) ruling elites have their power attacked by suddenly important oligarchs (they're 2 different "factions" despising each other) and now they're reborn after realizing that a "complex system" like the russian federation (Russia+subjects like it was in Romanov times) without a strong ideology can collapse under the pressure of the other systems using the liberal rights as ram: Marxism wasn't strong enough (it never was despite the Cold War stupid fears, long time dead since Lenin death and other "old guard" convenient murders by Stalin) and the Far Right culture flowed into the ex-URSS just took its place by storm creating the humus for the today authoritarism and its messianic vision "for the future of the russian nation" (as a cultural state really similar to colonial empires of the '800 - just see the obession with the UK and its Commonwealth born as an extended kingdom over the seas).
USA and UE have no proper weapon against spiritual-mystical-teleological systems (it's why the West is called "degenerated" and "weak" by russian elites, just like we've done here in Italy during the Fascism for 20 years and local Putin supporters has never been so excited since then, you can't even imagine the sheer feverish happiness of them seeing Russia moving the war they have dreamed since forever).....it's why the Kremlin always says it got a lot of "silent friends" in
Europe (vs the devilish "UE"). We got useful idiots too (like republicans in USA, they're the perfect useful idiots thanks to their cinic pragmatism).

If Putin gets its his way, he will stay out until 2036, according to a certain law he has passed or he is trying to pass that will effectively nail him to the throne for years to come.
And this dude is Far right alright.
"Per Dio e la Madonna".

It has been incredibly frustrating to see much of the West hum and haw over whether Ukraine should be given tanks, whether they should be given planes, whether they should be given this or that. Then they fail to deliver even the amount of ammunition they promised and some think no aid should be given at all.
At times, it almost seems like it's deliberate to draw out the conflict as long as possible, in order to deplete Russia economically, militarily, and demographically. I say almost, because, knowing EU's bureaucratic tendencies and the political dysfunction in the US, incompetence seems to be an equally valid explanation here.

That's an insult to the far right. A far-right leader would never stand for the out-of-line shit that goes on with Mr Kadyrov and his little Adam, for instance. This dude is a stuttering senile sack of shit who doesn't care about political leanings. His job is to be an arbiter for the mob factions that are hogging Russia's resources. And so far he hasn't inconvenienced them enough for them to get rid of him.

Well several attempts to denounce the governmental corruption ended up in imprisonment and death when dealing with mister Putin.
