rule of law is necessary, but it doesn't win unless you fight tooth and nail for it
Optimistic "good willing" scenario (I'm talking about institutions, not persons) that doens't count one thing: if we die in very high number for the "rule of law" who remains to "be binded by law"
Cui prodest?
It's why I can't accept the (VERY optimistic) idea of "good willing" institutions too. A pervertion of the will and the mind.

Solid point that folks of both countries have delusions that Destiny is on their side though. That's the real legacy of the Cold War that's still hanging on. I think they mutually gave each other a mug of that poison over the 20th Century.
If the war of mutual delusion is between "rule of law always wins, just say the words" vs. "rule of law is always a sham, never trust any institution", the least I can say is that at least the former has a chance of getting its hands on the truth, to wit, "rule of law is necessary, but it doesn't win unless you fight tooth and nail for it, and FFS above all you can't commit monstrosities in its name if you want it to work." You don't even get a chance at that much with the latter.
I think both sides have much more common than they are willing to admit in their belief that might makes right, or, to put it in other words, "Our country is great, therefore it cannot be wrong."
Where they differ and greatly misunderstand each other is the incredible cynicism of Russians and incredible optimism and idealism of people in the US. Russians cannot believe the US is so idealistic, because nothing ever changes for them and everybody in the world is only in it for themselves or acts on behalf of the powerful. The US cannot believe the Russians are so nihilistic, because they must basically be people like us, surely, underneath all that pessimism and if you look deep in their eyes, maybe you can sense their soul or something, so let's try a reset of the relations, maybe, just in case, once again.
This results in two very different societies where in one of them the little guy loses most of the time, but still struggles in the hope they at least have a fighting chance, and in the other, the little guy believes they have no fighting chance whatsoever, gives up before the fight even starts, and the rare few bold ones who dare to think otherwise are picked off one by one like this guy: (

It's really simple:
USA:Russia ("russian federation" ahahah)=American Dream:Spiritual Greatness
Big entities are so macroscopic-ly synthesizable that you can bypass "individual human complexity".....just like in thermodynamics.
Those "people" are condamned to be simpletons by the system - and its elite's promoted "values" - they're instructed to embrace and love, sometimes parody of what a human being can be.

"Idealism" broadly speaking because proper (hegelian) idealism is what you got in Russia where the "state" pretend to be the "people" (better, the "people" is what the "state" allows the real persons to be and nothing more because idealistically it's what they MUST be according to its theorerical models, of course primarily being functional to the state itself in an overembracing conception of human interactions - that's the "RUSKI MIR" )
"Idealism" is the mortal enemy of "Liberism" (and it's why "liberal" in USA is used by the republicans as a derogatory term) and the core of every "proper" (sigh) Fascism.
Here in Italy all ProPutin intellectuals (not the stupid veterocommunists, they're just delusional elders with childish Soviet Nostalgia, they're not even communists but "sovereignists" like Stalin was, hating "US corporations" and not realizing that Russia economy and power too is corporation-based and not a bucolic paradise of microbusinesses) are heavy hegelian idealists. And like Putin they're cunning and dangerous liars going right to believe in their own lies in the end.

This one is amusing, a mix of war paranoia and the old fashioned thing where adults are confused about stuff teenagers like.
A fad among Russian teens related to a kid's anime got the Ukranian officials scared that it was an organized plot by Russia to destabilize Ukrainian youth:
(
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/03/02/europe/anime-inspired-russian-gangs-ukraine-intl/index.html)
I mean ... look at the image with the kid in the big-titty anime girl t-shirt. Those are the new "gang colors" apparently. A bunch of kids have matching merch for an anime, and they mistook it for an organized gang.
At first because of how ominous they were talking about it, I thought it might be something related to Death Note or Danganronpa or something: something gritty that teens would still be aware of. But no, it's merch from this fucking thing:

I mean, it is pretty gritty -- life and death duels, genocide, nuclear weapons used, etc. Or at least it's more gritty than Death Note. Not sure about Danganronpa.

How US republicans and

I'm living the best of my life, you stupid libtards ahah! YOU PUSSIES, JUST LOOK AT ME, I'M PERFECT, LOOK AT ME" by the GOP pro-Putin (pro-dictatorship) and Peterson INC and instrumental to the propaganda machine.
Now you see why it's a theater (and why I totally despise the "expression freedom right", because THIS is the final form of it)
And yes, they're totally LIES, I'm italian and our (post fascist but not so stupid) Meloni has NO pact with Putin, so
that video you see in the list about Putin and Meloni is a LIE.
But US republicans ADORE lies.
Why on Earth we must toletare GOP? We already got russians living in the '800 with the colonial spanish feudal - if not directly mafia - mindset and talking about
Ekaterina Empire, isn't enough? Why US republicans too communing with them after they every day invoke the nuclear wrath on our heads?
This must stop (Hinkle is an "ex populist leftist" buyed to republicans cause.....
by money I see or just playing that role since ever for the GOP)

When you have freedom of expression, you should expect to see a lot of expression you don't agree with. That's the price. But because of this freedom, you're allowed to express your strong opposition to it. You don't win someone by silencing them, but rather offering something better than what they're offering so that others can see their folly and be inspired by what you're offering. That of course requires you to commit to what you believe is good and right, and work hard to bring it into this world.
