I tried installing thief 1 on my pc. after i hit install i get this message-
windows nt install detected
this product cannot be installed on windows nt due to microsoft directx(tm) limitations.
I was able to install thief 2 but when i try to run a new game the screen goes black. ctrl-alt-delete and there is an error message saying -direct 3d device driver does not accurately report texture memory usage.contact your 3d vendor for updated drivers. I do not see an optoin to attach dxdiagnostics. I tried the first suggestion in frequently asked questions but the file couldn't be found. I played these games on an old win98 system. thought it might be fun to go thru them again. deadly shadows is only worth 1 go around. any help would be appreciated.

I was able to install Thief 1 but it won't play. How does one downgrade the directx drivers (currently 9c) to 8x.xx or lower as recommended in the faq? I assume that this would prevent me from running anything requiring 9c. Maybe it isn't worth the trouble.

I think DDFix allows you to run the latest DirectX supported by your video card and still play thief. It basically converts the rendering calls from Thief's level of DX to what the version you have installed is expecting. Can someone who actually has to use DDFix confirm that please?

All the DX drivers below
10 are backward compatible (and 10 maybe, I've not tried it). As you are running XP the
9.c drivers work fine. You DON'T NEED TO BACK THE DRIVERS DOWN.
I run all 5 original versions and Deadly Shadows on
DX9.C with no problems.
