Using the Fleshworks isntall instructions, we still find that by launching the editor using dracflamloc's launcher, it opens thief ds and then gives an error message and has to close. Running the editor directly also results in an error message -"You must launch Thief Deadly shadows editor from T3.exe with the "editor" commandline argument. Running the editor using the manual run commandline also does not work. For reference I have included fleshworks install notes to highlight what we have done and possible locations of where the installation has gone wrong.
Uninstall any modifications you have added that appear in the Add/Remove Programs, such as John P's excellent custom textures.
Uninstall the game and delete the installation directory.
Install and patch the game. For reasons that will become clear later it is best to install it to a directory named Thief3 rather than the default Thief - Deadly Shadows. Also, avoid installing it under the Program Files directory, or any other directory that contains spaces in its name.
Make a copy of the installation directory and name it Thief3Edit.
Delete the contents of the CONTENT\Maps folder, you won't need these in the editor. You can also delete the CONTENT\Video Textures folder. Please note, some people have found they need the GMP and IBT files
Extract the editor to your new Thief3Edit directory.
Delete T3Main.exe from the Thief3 Edit\System directory and rename T3MainOptVersion.exe to T3Main.exe.
Open the file user.ini in the root of the Thief3Edit directory and add a semi-colon to the start of the line LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True.
At the bottom of this file, add the following:
[Conversations]
""SchemaChangesAllowed""=trueAdd whatever mods you want to the standard installation inside the Thief3 directory.
The easiest way to launch both the editor and the game is to use dracflamloc's Thief 3 Launcher. Just fill in the directories in the two fields for each install, and the launcher will change the registry key that points to the current Thief 3 install you want to use.
Launching the editor manually should work by running the command "t3.exe -editor".
If it doesn't, your install doesn't match up with the registry key. If you run the launcher again this is easily fixed ????
We would very much appreciate someone looking over this and identifying where we have gone wrong. The text highlighted in blue I am certain I have done correctly, whereas in red the tutorial was alittle less specific and I am not entirely sure that we've proceeded as the tutorial intended.
Please reply asap as we're keen to get producing fm's!
Thanks

What type of error do you get with Drac's loader?
I'm not clear on what the problem could be. I have a stand alone, self installing version of the editor that I made some time ago called T3EnhancED, but as the name implies...it's enhanced to build FM's that are more like T1 and 2, not vanilla T3.

The annoying thing is I have used the editor before and not previously encountered a major error.
Well I initiate the dracflamlocs launcher, and the application starts and as you know you select the filepath of both thief3 and thief3edit, and I select to launch the editor, but the game initialises and not the editor! But moments after (1-2 seconds) the error message appears which says thief3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. The only places I can think of where we could have gone wrong in the walkthrough of the install is at those points highlighted in red, I'd very much appreciated someone expanding the proceedure for those points in alittle more detail to see if I have followed the correct steps.
Thanks in advance

Well you have to manually open and explore both windows to show where is the editor located in T3 launcher.
I have thief3 in one partition and one in another partition.

I see you highlighted in red the part where you have to rename T3MainOptVersion.exe to T3Main.exe. Did you actually do that part? If you did it right, your T3Main.exe should be 8,680 KB.
If you're using dracflamloc's launcher, be sure that the Editor Path has T3Edit (or whatever you named the directory) highlighted and not the System folder inside that folder.
As a side note, after you get everything running, if you intend to make changes to the Gamesys, be sure to point the launcher to the editors T3Gamesys.t3u using the Browse button.

From my edit install located in J:
J:\Thief3edit user.ini (is right there in the root of this directory)
Quote:
[BlockLoading]
;LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True
;WriteResourceBlockFiles=True
[Source Control]
UseSourceSafe=0
[Engine.Engine]
UpdateGameSys=0
[Conversations]
SchemaChangesAllowed=True
[PCVertexPools]
DynamicVertexPool=6291456
StaticVertexPool=3145728
StaticShadowVertexPool=5242880
When calling on the editor you shouldn't quote anything from the tutorial but instead point it to the executable locations via t3 launcher.

Well ok, here goes again. The current problem I am having is, I have followed the fleshworks tutorial to the letter, but both me and shadowman have different problems, while we have followed the same tutorial exactly he can run the editor and not thiefds and i can run thiefds and not the editor. When I use dramflocs launcher I can launch TDS but not the editor, I specify the filepath (as best you can with dracflamloc's as it won't let you expand on the folders to reach the editor's location exactly or thief3's icons either, so I used only the directory for both) I have messed with other combinations in dracflamloc's and got no joy. I try and launch the editor manually by double clicking the icon in the thief3edit system folder but i get the following error:
"You must launch the Thief Deadly Shadows Editor from T3.exe with the "editor" commandline argument"
Now I don't know quite what this means at all, but draflamlocs does absolutely nothing (nothing, no error message, no working, just a functionless button) when i click to launch the editor, and manually i get that error. I have tried using the run commandline and entering the filepath but still no joy. I am suspicious that possible my thief3editorrelease_jan2005 is incomplete, as both mine and shadowman's folders upon file replacing have different totals, mine being:
Thief3Edit - 1.26GB
Thief3Edit/CONTENT = 1.22GB in size (size, not size on disk)
Thief3Edit/System= 41.0mb in size
And my thief3editorrelease_jan2005 file unzipped is 634mb in size
Can anyone confirm that these sizes are indeed correct, perhaps my download links are to blame
Thanks, any advice VERY WELCOME, spent weeks on this now!

Can I see a screenshot or two of how you have things setup? This all seems extremely odd.
I would like to see a screen shot of the drac launcher espeically. You only need to navigate to the installation folder...'thief3' for the game, or 'thief3edit' for the editor, depending on what you have actually named the directories of course.

New Horizon, I've done that I'm afraid, I point it to thief3edit for the editor and thief3 for the game and i get no response when i click to launch.It does absolutely nothing, is the game sys filepath at the bottom anything relevant that needs changing?
Werewolfintheshadows on 31/7/2006 at 20:33
Still absolutely no ideas as yet. Does garretloader have to installed or run prior to the editor working? I dont see why this should be the case but I'll ask anyway. I've followed every step of fleshworks tutorial I can see and when I click to launch the editor on dracflamloc's there is no response, yet thief ds loads. To reply to new horizon, the Folder Thief3Edit is highlight and Thief3 respectively. I really cannot think of anything else to try. I'd be very grateful for any hints or tips or walkthroughs from any editors out there.
