Thanks, NW. Going up the side worked for me, eventually.
Now I'm trying to find my way into the tower (the one that was empty in Part 1). I've KOed everyone I can and have a lot of keys, and there are still 3 doors I can't unlock. I'll figure it out eventually, I'm sure.

 How to get to the roof of monastery in the 1st part ? I had attempting to do it looong time without success....
I got up there by shooting two ropes into the wooden bridge that leads from the roof to the tall tower. One rope on the lower brace and one on the railing, both near the ledge of the presumed monastery roof. Then, jump up to the search light, and jump onto the lower rope. Climb that, and then switch to the upper rope. Retrieve lower rope and climb to the railing -- can't mantle over it. Jump from that rope over to the narrow ledge surrounding the parapet. Make your way counterclockwise, jumping over a gap, to a low spot where the parapet is damaged. Jump mantle up and over the damaged part of the parapet. Find a guard with an arrow. Nothing else up there or in the tower that I could find.
Interesting at first, then the pletora of bugs made this set of missions gain a special place in my black book, got stuck in brushes in several areas, got out the map before completing my goals (mission 1), dammit, level 2, well guess where the artist put the entry way contest, level 3, got stuck on a brush, got fed up with this missions set bad quality and gave up.
Never again will play anything from this author sorry, but bug testing should be a priority, unless you want to play a Microsoft corp. move on us, you beta test it!

The objective to "...activate the firelock" has not ticked off, even though I believe I activated it. Is this a bug?
By activating I mean placing a golden skull on the central platform causing some harmful gas emission followed by the appearence of 2 haunts.
There was mention early in this thread about using a fire arrow here but I never saw any need. Perhaps that is where I'm confused.

This is really a "bump" to get a response for the previous message, but I have another question anyway.
The Gem Caves......I can't seem to find them, and I need to get the loot total over 5000 before I jump down into the blood red water of the lower? caves.
Nightwalker on 30/12/2006 at 19:39
There's a description of the route to the gem caves in the walkthrough (
http://thiefmissions.com/walkthroughs/Ruined.html) here . I just don't have time to write it all out right now but that should set you straight, I hope.

I forgot about that walkthrough...thx
I had to manually finish the level however, since the objective to "activate the firelock" just wouldn't click off for me, even though I did activate it.
One thing about the walkthrough that may need a correction.....
In the gem cave, I'm told to use rope arrows to get the unreachable gem(s). Rope arrows don't attach to the roof in this cave. So they can't be used. I managed to retrieve all but 1 gem by jumping though.
There is a wooden beam in the roof of that cave and my rope arrows stick into it OK. That's how you get that last gem.

Does anybody on the German side know what RostVogel (the author of this mission & "Konkurrenten") is up to these days?
Even though his missions often are released with bugs to work out, I love the style and feel and his offerings. Hope he is still interested in doing T2 (or T3, TDM) missions.
