GAHH! RRRFUCKING!! It's so frustrating. Every time I try to talk to Dowd in New York, something is shooting at him. Usually one of those bots, how exactly does Dowd get to that position to be shot at anyway? He's supposed to stand quietly there, unnoticed, so I can talk to him, but somehow, he gets noticed anyway and runs off toward the cops. Then while they're shooting at him he stands there with his hands behind his head, occasionally running in a random direction. When things calm down, he continues to run around, staring at the bodies, hands behind his head as usual.
Don't you think that if the makers were gonna add this kind of realism, they'd do a better job? Who the hell would stand in the open with their hands behind their head when they hear gunfire? I'd imagine they'd run for cover. Dowd runs into the open...
How the hell am I supposed to talk to him!! RRRRGHHHH!!

The first time that happened to me, I wrote it off as a fluke. The second time that happened, I became pissed. The third time, I quicksaved right before the trigger and just kept quickloading until Dowd finally decided not to flee into a hail of gunfire.
Done that ever since. Perhaps there's a better workaround..?

Easiest thing to do is to take out the troops and the bots before you talk to Dowd. There's one specific thug who will try to kill him if you mention his name to Jordan Shea or Joe Greene, but as long as you don't, you should be fine. :)

Don't think it ever happened to me... Were your weapons visible or hidden?
Deiyen on 9/6/2002 at 22:31
I always talk to Jordan Shea and Joe Greene, but I knock out Joe Greene and the thug. I don't like taking out the cops and bot because doing so spawns extra UNATCO troops. It didn't really matter if my weapons were visible or hidden. By the time I get to the warehouse, Dowd is already standing there with his hands behind his head, being shot at by the bot.

That's odd. When I went to see him he was in niche in the ruined building of Hell's Kitchen if I'm thinking of the right person. I coudn't find him for a long time because I didn't look around the corner.

Choose room 201 and then "The adventures of po and wonder dog". That's my picto story and I'm proud of it.

Yea, that's where he's supposed to stand, but for some reason, when I get there, he's standing by the entrance, soaking up bullets.
Uncia on 10/6/2002 at 07:57
Hmm, can he be killed at that point? It'd be mighty annoying to get a game over because the AI malfunctioned.
Hm. I have to remember not bringing him the Ambrosia vaccine this time round to see what twist the storyline will take. :cheeky:

Maybe then he'd have a better reason for being in his family crypt later!

No... he doesn't die at that point. Just stands there like a bullet sponge. It might be better if he died, then maybe I could actually get new objectives. But nooooo, he's gotta stand there 'til I kill everything and wait around for a half hour.
Not giving him Ambrosia just results in a bit of dialogue change, and you don't hear from him for the rest of the game. If you wanna deny him the Ambrosia, use it for yourself. :ebil: Even though you're immune to the Gray Death. You can read the note that it gives you too.
