Damn, so much new stuff popping up all the time that I can't keep up anymore! They all seem to be rather positive too.
Good stuff:
- "If you like taking people out and looting at your leisure, that's an option. If you like massive fights, go for it. And if you're like me and your preferred approach to stealth games is 'no touching', you can be a ghost."
- Dynamic shadows
- "It's first-person for the most part, although the action sometimes shifts to third-person to highlight Garrett using the claw, clinging onto a ledge or performing an optional takedown on an enemy."
- "You can't use Focus constantly and it will not recharge on its own, but it's there as an option for players to use tactically."
- "I can already see how a lot of my game will be spent: watching, waiting, making plans, acting them out, adapting to circumstances."
- "your enemies in Thief won't be so predictable"
Not so good stuff:
- "Garrett has Lara Croft's annoying habit of talking about what he's doing in such a way that it spoils moments of discovery in favour of making sure you know exactly what to do."
- "each individual raindrop was being rendered separately" >>> I suppose I'm gonna have to buy that new computer after all.
- any mention of third person action :p

And you're doing a good job!
I guess I should've used 'coherent' instead of 'objective'. Unfortunately most of what I've read, seen, & heard is not encouraging for me. Don't get me wrong; I'm not wishing ill towards those who are really anticipating T4 and looking forward to playing the game. I honestly hope they do enjoy it. But still, unfortunately, my anticipation of T4 turned to apprehension several days ago and is just not getting any better. Wall-hugging, forced third-person, slo-mo kill scenes, too many Dishonored parallels (I LOVED Dishonored, btw), and the list just keeps growing more discouraging. I wanted to love T4, I really did. All I can hope for at this point is that EM will release a demo before they release the game, because as it stands, I won't be spending $60 on this one. Unless the demo blows me away, of course. Stranger things have been known to happen.
Thanks to those who answered my questions. Much appreciated.

I hate... no, actually I love to say "I told you so"
You say that like we weren't all expecting it all along, van Boring.

I am both relieved to hear some stuff, and at the same time horrified by some awful, awful decisions. I knew there were going to be 3rd person takedowns, I knew it.

I wonder how EM will approach the subject of "boss fights." You'd think they probably learned a thing or two from what happened with the bosses in DXHR, but you never know.

Thanks Brethren. Now I've got a stomach ache.

I know you're deeply disappointed and upset, Dia, and why shouldn't you be. But I think what I wanted to say is that what you wrote in that post enabled discussion - gave something to think about and talk about.
And brandy's good for the stomach.

You know, it'd be really cool if EM set up a way that fans can ask questions, and then periodically (one a week, month?) they were answered via podcast.

Ok, read the preview. I'm starting to feel about this the same way I felt about DXHR in the months leading up to it's release. I'm expecting a good game, though not necessarily one that'll be true to the original. Then again Human Revolution
did end up surprising me by genuinely feeling like a Deus Ex game, so who know.
A few of things I really liked in the preview was reading that they've taken more cues from TMA than TDP when it comes to level/mission design, and the talk of increased mobility and the way Garrett's hands interacts with the world sound swell too!
Can I ask. Only, details aside, I quite liked DE:HR. But honestly I found it almost completely forgettable. It was okay enough while I played through but none of the environments, characters, tools or gameplay sequences were inspiring or strong enough to really stick in my mind especially.
What was your take there?

'when he attaches to a wall'
There are other things to climb (Rope Arrows etc).
It would be rather inconsitent from a game design point of view if one type of climbing is third person while others aren't. This shot from the eurogamer article would seem to agree with that assumption.
