Third Person sounds pretty minimal/avoidable if not actually optional
Did I misread something?

Garrett spends more time climbing than he has previously, which leads to the already-maligned third-person viewpoint when he attaches to a wall.
So we have more climbing than ever, which forces third person. How is that minimal, avoidable, optional?

in first-person, you’d only be able to see the wall right in front of you

'when he attaches to a wall'
There are other things to climb (Rope Arrows etc).
It's not mentioned for anything else you might expect it to be (like 'taking cover' etc). Thinking positive.
Elaboration:
"On the latter point, that's not the case at all - shadows are cover. It's even possible to stand in the shadow a guard casts and hide in it. The entire stealth system is based around shadow, light and fog, not just cover. In fact, furniture and other smaller cover items are mostly useful BECAUSE of the shadows they cast rather than the physical object itself. As for sound, I spoke about that a little in the interview. It's possible to use noises to distract guards but Garrett's found some soft soles this time around and doesn't start stomping around and making noise when he's on a hard floor. That aspect may change apparently."

Thanks for posting the link, Vivian, that was an interesting read!
I agree with you about pretty much everything as well, especially the swearing thing. The world in classic Thief was dark but also taffin' humouristic at times, and I loved that... I suppose that the new Thief will be totally Serious Business, which is kinda meh.
I also still don't see any kind of third person action as a good thing. The takedown moves and stuff may look cool for the first few times, but for me they always get boring pretty soon, when you see the same moves over and over again. I sure hope that there's an option to make them optional (or that they are indeed very limited!), that'd be perfect.
All in all, the article left me quite satisfied and even excited about Thief 4, and the fact that it's written by someone who clearly loves Thief makes it even better!

That scene is gimmicky and The Wire is overrated.
Deadwood, on the other hand... David Milch's use of profanity is pure genius.

I can totally see Garrett calling someone an asshole though.

I'm still really worried about the third person stuff, as petty as it may sound, it would be a deal breaker for me even if everything else turns out great. I just know when I go to play it, I'd be doing everything I could to avoid it the entire time instead of just getting immersed into the game.
From the comments below the article.

The 3rd Person-sections are luckily not avoidable, since climbing in 1st person would be a really shitty experience.
This
must be optional, they have absolutely nothing to lose by doing so. Of course if recent history is any evidence, there will be no such option.

Questions (trying ever so hard to be objective here, mind you):
The Focus ability? Not quite sure what that is, or maybe I do know but as a different term/phrase?
'The level design in The Metal Age had more focus, more thievery and possibilities for avoidance of conflict.' So I guess ghosting is out of the question?
'uncomfortable proportion of Dishonored parallels. Despite his increased agility and eyeshadow'. Don't like the 'Dishonored parallels', but the graphics are definitely eye-candy. But (seriously minor detail, I know) does Garrett wear the mask & eyeshadow through the whole game; even while at home? The eyeshadow/mask bother me; Garrett's a Thief, not a Ninja.
'pulling off the occasional slow-motion murder'. Hope that's optional. As much as I dearly loved DX:HR, the take-down cutscenes got old after awhile.
'The rooftop pursuit is a race against time.' Hope that's optional as well. Hate timed levels/missions.
'which leads to the already-maligned third-person viewpoint when he attaches to a wall. 'It was rarely used in the demonstration and explained away with a slightly apologetic shrug'. Optional? (The 'apologetic shrug' bothers me.)
'When he isn't wielding a weapon or examining loot, the hands interact with the environment, gripping corners as he leans, brushing against walls and tables as he passes. It's an effective spatial tool and helps make his body, which physically exists rather than being a floating camera, an active part of the environment.' Is all of this spatial-tool-interaction in the third-person then? Am I interpreting incorrectly that if Garrett isn't 'wielding a weapon or examining loot' you'll automatically be booted into third-person? Would also be great if they made that optional.
Just wondering, is all.
