Lean to reach someone or something you couldn't reach otherwise would be another reason. Yet another element that adds to immersiveness.

Of course...Creative applications have now been elimnated or at least compromised.

why would you want to lean any time apart from at a corner?
This is really the type of unimaginative, simplistic thinking, that will likely turn NuThief into a mockery.

It's also the kind of talk that makes me wonder if the people doing the talking have only played Thief in a cursory manner. Sometimes it seems that people aren't really familiar with the games at all.

Yeah, it's really scary all the way around.

All this does is effectively take creative choice away from the player...and this is fundamentally opposed to the THIEF experience.
My God, what have they done.
...my GOD! They've RUINED IT FOREVER!
Once again, it's different. From the sound of it, they've expanded the move set by quite a bit, and probably needed those extra buttons to do other thing. What? I dunno. Probably kick people in the shins.
Now I did use lean out beyond corners. Like I played through The Black Frog recently, and there were times I'd be out in the open, and I'd lean over to get a view of an angle slightly beyond something without moving. It was nice and handy. Used only occasionally.
But setting it up to work more like DX:HR isn't that big of a change. What you'll probably do is hit a button to press against a wall, and use the WASD keys to peek around corners (and hopefully over edges). They'll probably also set it up so you can throw things around a corner, like a flash grenade or something, without having to show yourself around a doorway or toss it from 10 feet back.
So it's not like they're taking things away so much as moving them around. It's not worth freaking out over.

Someone on the Eidos forum is concerned that he won't be able to lean while aiming the bow. I guess that's so ingrained in my playstyle that I didn't even think of it. I would sure hate to lose that ability.

what, do you think running round like you've got inner ear trouble is such a fundamental part of thief that you'll start talking like gollum again if it isn't in?
why am I even asking.

Ok, we get it. You're the most balanced person on the forums. We should all be so perfect. lol

Different doesn't always mean better. If they need the extra buttons for consoles that's fine, but it shouldn't have any impact on PC play. We've got an entire keyboard. Hopefully they will see fit to expand control for PC players as like many I would be expecting a PC centric build and not a console port to PC.
