Does anyone know how to rotate a directional light? I'm trying to make a spotlight. I've giving it all the appropriate physics properties and I tried attaching it to a rotating smesh, but it refuses to move.

I had a quick look at this, it does seem troublesome doesn't it? I added a torch bearing guard then changed the torch light to a spot, the light immediately disappeared. I presume using elevators would be the same. Scripting is the only other thing I can think of, not sure how you'd do it though.

I never tried changing a torch guard's light to a spot! Gotta give that a try. :ebil:
I had the problem with the light disappearing before. Did you change the DirectionalLightShape Length and Radius? They default to zero.
Edit: Good Call! It works! So at least I know it's possible. Maybe I can rigid attach a hand torch to my rotating dish and draw scale it to zero.....

:o
Yeah it works now. I suspect the problem with a rotating smesh is that the smesh isn't moving as such, it's just rotating and the rigidattachment doesn't take that into account. Elevators may work, however (but I've never used them so I'm hardly authoritative on that one).

Actually, it worked quite well. :D At least, it moved with the rotating smesh properly. The directional light didn't produce the desired effect, though. It kept flickering on and off at random and it didn't illumunate the light gem. In the end, I had to fake it by attaching an actor with an omni light and offsetting it to sweep just above ground level. I added another smaller light just in front of the dish to illuminate it. The setup works very well, but the shadows don't react right. I guess it would do if you really needed a search light, but it's not perfect. :erg:

I have an AI that's also acting as a light source (!) and it seems to flicker on and off as well. Not sure about the light gem though, I'll have to check.
