Since you're asking for opinions, you probably have the option to get a roommate or not. If so, I recommend avoiding the whole "roommate" idea.
Unless you're a Private Investigator, you can't trust a total stranger as a roommate. Period.
I'm not saying you can trust very good friends either, but you probably know them enough to make the experience OK if you've got to have a roomie.
Funny roommate story: one time I lived w/ 2 women. One of them had a vibrator collection that she kept on the library-style headboard of her bed. At night (the walls weren't well insulated), she could be heard talking to them and doing God-only-knows-what...

When I entered university, I had the pleasure of living 3 months with two guys, who spent a significant amount of time *daily* sleeping on the floor in a pool of their own vomit.
After that I got together with two of my mates (one I already met 4 years earlier in high school, the other just 3 months prior, on a math course.) and together we rented a house for ourselves. We lived together for 4 years without much difficulty. Good times.
I'd really think twice or thrice about moving together with complete strangers, as you can always get *really* unlucky with them. I suppose you don't know anyone in the area, whom you could move in with?

After his dad died, my neighbor got a roommate to help pay the bills and for some company. The guy was...OK...for about a week, or so. Then, one day, he was out in the middle of the road, beating the ever-loving-shit out of my neighbor because (get this) he thought my neighbor was trying to put thoughts in his head while he slept.
On the other hand, my roommate was great (especially with a bit of butter-sauce and some pepper).

I'd rather be homeless than live with a roommate ever again.
