This looks
friggen sweeeeet. Obvious Gunpoint-influences(the dev admits as much), but the gameplay is something quite different. Check out Polygon's video below to see what it actually plays like, or try the demo. The demo is quite limited tho. Release date: May 2015. GET HYPED

It also reminds me of Mark of the Ninja :)
Turn-based? Insta-purchase for me then...
EDIT: The gameplay' sick! :)

So literally Mark of the Ninja + Gunpoint, huh? It hews really, really close to Gunpoint's general aesthetic and movement, to the point where the visuals seem a bit less homage-y and a bit more direct rip-off. But turn-based action platforming sounds interesting, even if it is a contradiction in terms. Lessee this demo thang.

There's a pretty meaty 3-level demo of this out on Steam now. Apparently the game is about assassinating 5 characters from an old photo. The demo contains the first of these assassinations. The final room is super difficult. I must've gone through 15 different strategies before I made it through, and even then it wasn't perfect as I let an alarm go off before I was done.

It looks interesting, but after watching a vid I'm not seeing much in the stealth area. It's tough applying that term to anything turn-based anyway.

I'm probably past the half-way point right now, and I can confirm that yes, there is certainly stealth. Both line-of-sight and shadow-based!

What's cool is that the game doesn't really push the stealth at all. The systems are there but it's up to you to discover them. Tho also it should be noted that not every area is going to have a lot of shadows, in fact most of them don't. Which pretty much means that once you're done planning your approach and you jump in, you're gonna have to move quickly before anyone manages to ring the alarm.

Ok I'm done. Turns out I was one mission away from the end when I wrote the last post. 2 hours played says Steam, which is short. Too short! I was having fun, man! Luckily there's a New Game Plus which switches up the enemy placement and gives the baddies new abilities. It also unlocks all the skills for you, even the ones you hadn't unlocked previously.

Hmm... that can't be right. It took me at least twice as long. Did you do the bonus objectives like spare civilians, etc?
henke on 9/7/2015 at 07:28
Yeah it certainly felt longer than 2 hours. It might just be Steam's timetracking acting up again. I completed all the objectives on maybe half of the levels, I'd say. I wish there was a way to subdue civilians without killing them. Too often I'd have to let them just call in an alarm because I didn't have time to stand around starring at them angrily for the rest of the level. I had stuff to do, man!
