Both films have:
* The same director
* The same lead actor
* Reluctant heroes that band together after a chance encounter
* A noble king/emperor succeeded by calculating brother/son
* A strong-willed 'damsel in distress'
* Did I mention it's Russell Crowe playing the only role he can properly digest?
Anyway, overall that's not a bad formula. The movie felt long, but I thought the characters were done well. Would see it again on DVD with the closed caption on; I couldn't understand the gibberish in the early part of the movie.

My mother wants to see this. I'm not so sure.

Someone needs to watch The Insider.

Robin Hood = Gladiator ...in Tights!
Unfortunately, unlike
Gladiator,
Robin Hood is an unfocussed mess. Too many disparate, even downright stupid storylines that don't gel into anything coherent. (

More like
Kingdom of Heaven's Theatrical Cut; let's hope there's going to be a Director's Cut that fixes this thing - again.

Hee, I enjoyed Russell's mini-meltdown over criticism of his accent.

The scale of aforementioned meltdown was somewhat exaggerated in the tabloids, of course.
But yeah, glad we've still got some prickly stars to give us amusement.

Ah, but does it have the sloppy SFX that made Gladiator such a disappointment?
SubJeff on 18/5/2010 at 15:26
No. I wasn't expecting anything special and enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. There were a few things that irked me - riding from the North of England to the south coast/Dover in,errr, 3 hours?, and the fact that according to this film the only reason to wear armour is to look cool since only a shield will defend you from even the most glancing blow.
The plot isn't what you expect though and it's gritty enough for me. Looks great imho.
6/10.

It's not just his. This movie has cast members from so many different parts of the world who, despite their best efforts, ended up contributing to a cornucopia of accents that was a bit distracting for me. Considering that I'm not much of an expert on various English tongues, the fact that even I could tell that the accents were all over the place makes me wonder if some Brits were pulling their hair while listening to the dialogues.

Serious? I don't remember any major problems.
