Special loot locations
A bit more blunt than I was looking for, but I didn't specify. Thank you.

Honestly, I think any more enemies would have killed the spookiness of this level. It was scary because there were so few enemies. I'd creep along, paranoid the entire time; Not sure when or where I'd run into something. If it had degenerated into a mindless monster killfest, it would have been boring.
And even without the enemies, it was still creepy. The ghost in the attic and the "memories" both added to the spookiness like mad.

Ok, I just finished this mission, and two things:
First of all, this mission seemed to completely interupt the feel of the game. It didn't
feel like Thief when I was in there...It felt like a completely different game. I didn't feel like Garrett as much as I did some random person going through a creepy enviroment. It felt more like Silent Hill.
Second,
if you can get past the above, it is the most atmospheric, scariest, creepiest level I have ever played. Completely amazing. Now, it did get a little tedious when
you have to do those things for the ghost.
but, maybe that was just because I wanted to get out of there so bad. Seriously freaky...

I completely agree with this. I was hoping it wasn't going to turn into a generic monster fest with lots of zombies to kill or just get frustrated with...They held you in suspense for the longest time, something that was done by the old great horror movies, and rarely seen today, ESPECIALLY in video games. And when you did see them
with their strange movements and caged heads and hands,
it really gives you the feeling of "oh my god, what the HELL *IS* that?"
As mentioned above,
when you heard the banging in the attic...I was extremely hesitant to open that door at the top of the stairs...
Definetely a classic.

The patients reminded me of the Jackal from 13 Ghosts...mainly because it was on tv this morning while I was playing it again. I finally gave up and reloaded to right before I started this one so I could restock. I think I'll try it on Easy the next time I try it. Truly a creepy level.
Do we know which level the fan made that they brought in? I'm sorry I can't recall his name, but I know he did other FM's.

Speaking of this level, whoever did this level, I'd like to see a mission pack that is just levels like this, that has its own creepy storyline, since it does feel different from the rest of the game.
Release the editor!!

David "Sledge" Riegel. He definitely did St. Edgar's - I've done enough snooping around the other work he's done to recognize his style immediately, plus, he confirmed it ;) - but he apparently did some work on other missions. Not sure which, and the bean won't tell me until I've finished the game. :(

Holy freakin crap! I don't think any form of entertainment has ever scared and unnerved me this badly before. Whoever did the design for this level was a pure genious. The whole knocking on the door thing had me looking over my shoulder constantly (irl), and when I got to the inner level and saw the errrr... "residents" I flipped out.
The thing that really got to me was when you first go into the Hall of Records, and that 'thing' runs across the corridor in front of you! I don't even think anything in the Silent Hill series got to me that bad.
Anyway, I'm going to make another attempt at the level in the morning... with the blinds open. I never thought I would say that.. playing thief in the daylight...

Did I mention? This was the first time I was ever actually scared playing a videogame. I'm an avid horror fan: I grew up watching stuff like Hellraiser, A Nightmare on Elm St and such. I've probably played every horror game worth a snot, including the Silent Hills, System Shock 2, Undying, AvP2, The Suffering... and so on. I eat Stephen King for breakfast and crap out Clive Barker in the afternoon. And this is the first time I've ever actually been scared playing a game. I'm about as jaded as they come and still, I actually jumped several times while playing this mission.

Will someone come over and play this mission for me? I just started and I am freaking out (in broad daylight no less.) May have to open the blinds.
