There was an earlier post about Null working on SS3 if it ever came to be, and he said he'd love to.
Unfortunately, no such project exists. I can dream, though, can't I?

I'm new to these forums, though I've been lurking for a while, but this topic has prompted me to contribute. I simply have to share my experiences.
At the risk of sounding fanboyish, I'd like to add my praise to that already displayed here. The Cradle has been the scariest experience I've had of anything in any medium thus far. So, spoiler tags are go:
Right from the start, I was getting jumpy. I'm sure it was my imagination, but after picking up some water arrows from the fountain I turned around and I was certain that I'd seen a silhouette of a short figure by one of the pillars. As no-one else has mentioned it, I'm pretty sure that I imagined it, but nonetheless...
Upon entering the Cradle itself, the noises were spooking me. Every time there came a particularly violent set of moans or voices, I'd jump for a shadowy corner and crouch until they subsided. I explored the storm cellar warily, keeping away from the cage and from one end of the room, which I judged to be dodgy-looking. I proceeded upstairs and found the bench with the apple on it. I picked up the apple in my customary pick-up-anything-that's-frobbable way, and when I set it down on the bench it started to roll. This coincided with another bout of spooky noises, and while I cowered the apple continued its roll. I couldn't bear it any longer and picked the apple up again and set it on the bench - where it stayed this time - and I'm still not sure whether that roll was scripted or not.
The attic staircase next. The knocking seemed very 'real' and scared me half to death, and I was very disconcerted when I entered the room and found nothing. Lauryl saddened me more than scared me, and I found her whole story very heart-rending. The tasks set were also disturbing, such as the blood-filled phial and the nightgown. Upon entering the Inner Cradle, I was beginning to relax a bit. But when it came to entering the White Hall... The patient register and the whole thing had built up suspense that wasn't let down when I sighted a patient. The shambling, twitching walk, the mad flickering lights... I couldn't bear them, I had to kill them. And even though I used flashbombs and fire arrows and holy water, I still took running jumps over the bodies in case they got up. I was beginning to feel more at home in the past, simply because I didn't find the staff as scary as the suspense-building or the puppets, although when a staff memory looked in my direction I felt shivers.
The lift in the staff tower scared me, simply because of the blankly staring staff memory halfway up, staring out of a barred floor entrance. The final run across the table and the jump out of the window was marvellous, a real feeling of freedom to be in the open again, even when falling to my 'death'. A brilliant experience, even though I was loathe to move for half of it.
Kudos null and the sound artists.

Did you just LONG to be chased by those Enforcers again...anything to get out of the Cradle!!! I sure did.
By the way, I totally love how the British (I am presuming) use the word "dodgy". I wish Americans used that word. :thumb: :cheeky:

more null praise:
null, i think you made me just fall in love with undead missions. i've got to go back and play every OM and FM with undead now.( :weird: what am i saying?)
and now my story of first meeting the puppets: i was lockpicking a door and i hear a noise. naturally i step back from the door to see what it is.
there. charging. undead and wrapped in cloth from head to toe with cages on its head and hands. nearly had a heart attack but i subconciously pulled out my fire and shot it. then i shot it again. it was on the floor but it didnt disappear like the other zombies so i shoot it again (heh, i had to have 20 fire arrows before i ventured into a mansion that looked like THAT). my curosity takes over and i venture over to look at it and poke its limbs. bad move - i had alerted another puppet and it was charging me after i stepped into the light.
the MOST horrorifying scenario for me EVER!!
thank you null :thumb:

My most terrifying moment was when I first got acquainted with the puppets and started experimenting. There is an area where you can see one through an arch-type window through a hallway right next to the Hall of Records. There are 2 of them in that area, patrolling. So what I did was fire a fire-arrow out of the arching window into the beast across the hallway. It stopped its motions and looked directly at me from a distance, twitching every so often. It just kept standing there and looking, and I tried to Holy-water it, but the damn waters didn't make it past the darn window! So I'm standing a little pissed about wasting 2 holy waters when I notice that the mummy isn't there anymore! It sprinted out of where it was! So I wall-flatten and just wait. And there it comes, into the door and stands in front of me. Now that is some scary shit! Its standing there a foot away, it can't see me but maybe it can, because its standing right there in front of me twitching like a mofo! Its twitching right in my face, and it does that for a minute straight. Wheww I was so relieved when it left, I put out some mines and just laid the fucker to rest, first thing! But that experience gave me some nightmares. Oh, and in the 2nd half of the mission I made sure to kill all the staff I could, because the guys in the 1st half scared me so much I wanted to just make them die so they wouldn't scare me anymore. I wish they had a check-box with a "play Cradle mission" option, for those who haven't the nerve to play it again in a game replay.

1. Turn your sound all the way down.
2. Turn on lights in the room
3. Keep repeating "this is not real, this is not real"
4. Be fully armed with flashbombs.
:wot:

I actually enjoyed toying with the Enforcers, so yeah, I missed them dearly when I was in the Cradle. I also missed those crazy hammers, those wacky pagans, and even the silly keepers while I was locked away,
being told by a silly little ghost that I had to "pretend" to kill myself.
I love the word dodgy too, and I use it as much as possible.

The funny thing about the Cradle is it's just sitting there right in the center of the city...You walk through a gate in the bustling city center and suddenly you're in a haunted house...I wonder how the neighbors feel, if they throw flower pots whenever they see a puppet in the exercise yard, to get them to "shut the hell up and stop flickering the damn lights, willya, I'm trying to sleep!" :)

It IS the Old Quarter.
