Such a terrible and irrational tragedy.

I read about this this morning and it put a real damper on my day. I wasn't too familiar with Joss, outside of those shows, but it's just such sad, senseless violence. So much stupidity and petty cruelty in the world.

According to the linked article the San Antonio police are not calling it a hate crime though the man who shot him had called him homophobic slurs shortly before he killed him. And before that his home burned likely a result of that neighbor and his hate. Man up San Antonio. Call hate what it is. The POS who killed him also hated him enough to give up the rest of his own life. I can't imagine hating someone that much over who they love.

Well perhaps not, because the killer has been granted bail (!)

We don't really know the motive, but it sure looks a lot like it was premeditated, as it was the killer who had approached the victim by driving up to the house and he already had a loaded gun ready. And he seems to have already confessed to the killing. Also, apparently the skull and harness of one the dogs who had died in the house fire a few months ago had been placed in front of the house to taunt the victim (who people knew came back to the house regularly to check the mail): (

As for getting out on bail, the killer hasn't technically been proven guilty in court yet, so it's not really surprising, but it sure looks like a slam dunk case, especially as there are witnesses.
For me, it just goes to show how the reckless proliferation of guns makes everything needlessly more dangerous. Without a gun, this might have stayed a simple argument or maybe at worst a fistfight. But when guns are everywhere, it not only makes accidents more likely, but also murders.

I'm shocked that the perpetrator was even offered bail; usually, in cases involving murder and/or domestic violence, the perp is
not offered bail, period, lest the perp might have other victims in mind and isn't finished killing people yet. At least, that's the common practice up here in the Midwest ..... then again, we're talking about Texas, where hate crimes (racist and/or homophobic) abound and the perps often end up with just a slap on the wrist. *smh*

And I quote: '
He (Joss’ husband Tristan Kern de Gonzales) and Joss, who married in February, had previously faced “openly homophobic” harassment, de Gonzales said. The person who killed Joss yelled “violent homophobic slurs” before opening fire, he added.' (

So yes, we really
do know the motive. Again, it's Texas, so go figure.

Actually, it
is surprising: '
Statutes Governing Bail Eligibility for Murder
The legal framework surrounding bail eligibility for murder charges reflects the gravity of the offense. In many jurisdictions, murder is a non-bailable offense, meaning the presumption is against granting bail due to potential public safety risks and flight likelihood, given the severe penalties associated with a murder conviction. The U.S. Constitution’s Eighth Amendment prohibits excessive bail but does not guarantee the right to bail, allowing states to impose stringent conditions or deny bail altogether for serious crimes like murder.' You have a valid point, but senselessly blatant homophobia sure as hell was the obvious motive for this horrific crime. Sad to say, here in the U.S. we now have people in positions of high authority who have given the racists, sexists and homophobes in this country the green light to openly express their insane hatred of other people who differ from them, to the degree that crimes like this one are practically winked at by the authorities and courts and the perpetrators often never get the justice they rightfully deserve. Not to sound paranoid, but I think it's only going to get worse in the next four years. And that's very scary.

Hmmmmm... man burned out of his home for... uh... reasons... is mad. Wonder why? Read the comments below the article. They all side with the killer. Yeah. Texas.
The killing happened on his property that the killer should never have been on. Also the only witness says there were homophobic slurs shouted. Why deny the only witness?
