I got a new external USB-DVD drive for my birthday as the internal one is inaccessible (long story, don't feel like going into it again right now. Basically I've had to buy all my games over Steam for the last 4 months.)
It seems to work fine but it's got this little fan that is RIDICULOUSLY loud. Is this normal?
It's an I/O Magic 22x DVD+R/RW.

Shouldn't the fan only spin when the drive has to spin up? (surely not constantly!) There's no point having a fan spin if the drive its self isn't spinning and generating any considerable heat.
