I ran into a mod a while back thats goal was to fix the linearity and add to the existing size of the Rickenbacker. It made the Rickenbacker like the Von Brawn with the open design of the levels.
It seemed like it was far along but searching for it now (on the forums), I can't seem to find any information on it. Anyway that brings me to my question, I was wondering if anyone has heard or even knows if it is still being actively worked on?
Any information on this project would be greatly appreciated.

(
http://gotr.freylia.net/) That one?
If that's the one, it was in hiatus for several months due to me finding a job and moving to Spain, but I reactivated it around the end of December as things have settled down and I can DromEd again.
I wouldn't expect to release anything as of yet, but I should have new screenshots in the next few weeks.

Yes, that is the mod I was thinking of. Its great to hear that its not dead and is actively being worked on. Thanks for the update and I'm really looking forward to seeing the mod in action.
Before I forget, Are you adding in any easter eggs (fun little tidbits) for the ever-watchful player to go after?

This ship is a

SS2 fans feel the original design was too rushed, leading to
unrealistic layout and incoherent object placement, plot-critical or not.

I took the liberty to spice it up by throwing in a couple of visual goodness™ from another great LGS game, Thief: The Metal Age. These textures add up to the realistic feel of the ship, such as
wood panels,
marble floors, and so on.
Huh?

Officer's quarters and chapel mostly, and wood panels in the mess hall and similar common areas.
I don't put marble all over the place just for the fun of it... :p

are you going to make it compatable with straylight's mod or other similar mods, or, at the very least, incorporate straylight's updates with it? or is this question utterly moot?
(edit) n/m, i see here that it is in fact very moot, at least as far as the .mis files are concerned. i've only one request: make it darker. i actually enjoyed pod 1's moody atmosphere, it gave a very strong sense of a military-grade ship, where functionality beats comfort. having been on an actual navy cruiser i can safely state that it's a often lot darker than they show in the movies.

ok noted.
In terms of space, the fact I want to make it "bigger" so to speak does not necessarily mean more spacious, and one of the screenshots actually shows a (potentially misleading) earlier version of a corridor that I have since shrinked quite a bit; I want to make a coherent level.
I'm definitely trying to make a functional layout, not just eye-candy. My main source of inspiration was the "Sulaco" from Aliens and the "Lewis and Clark" from Event Horizon, but lately I have added Battlestar Galactica (2003 version) to my list of visual influences*.
I'm actually not too familiar with mods as the only one I "use" extensively is SHTUP.
To answer Axiix's question, I'm thinking about it. There will be a couple of easter eggs, I just have to find what they'll be ;) But the answer is yes.
*keyword here being INFLUENCE, not carbon copy or copy/paste
And before anyone asks, it's way too soon for a release date.

Some time ago I was actively following this project but now I can't recall:
Did you say you were going to be redesigning the existing parts of the ship or simply expanding new areas and sort of fixing errors with existing areas. I guess I want to know if the current architecture and styling will be present in the mod and if a player who's familiar with the Rick, will recognise stuff in the new design or whether it will all feel totally alien and new.
rachel on 17/2/2007 at 23:58
It is a redesign. I felt the original levels were too convoluted to be salvaged.
SPOILERISH: I made one of my layout sketches (
http://forums.freylia.net/index.php?topic=64.0) available for those who want to see it, giving some general details but vague enough not to give away everything.
I am doing my best to keep the original UNN feel, and it shouldn't be too unfamilar to Shock veterans. Also, my approach is to make the levels fit the ship that we briefly see in the Intro cutscene.

The Rickenbacker needs an overhaul, I'm looking forward to this. :thumb:
