Yeah, he is a plucky sort. I love the challenges they do now, a far cry from the boring old show Top Gear used to be. Hope he pulls through.

This is shit indeed, although part of me can't help feeling it was as inevitable as Steve Irwin being killed by a dangerous animal.
Or peter brock being killed in a car crash. It's a dangerous time to be an obscure celebrity it seems.

The crash will be investigated by the Health and Safety Executive and the BBC.
The BBC has a CSI division or something:confused: What am I missing here? Are they GB's leading crash scene investigators or something?

HSE is standard procedure after a workplace accident that isn't lol cut finger and the BBC are investiagting as it was on their watch. What's so odd about that?

Where I work 'lol cut finger' is enough to warrant filling out an accident & safety report :bored:
Get well soon Hammond!

Nooo!
I sure hope he gets better. Perhaps while he is in the hospital he really can get his teeth whitened.

This is really disappointing news. I hope that he recovers from this.
I love Top Gear--when SPEEDtv here in the States bothers to air it. That said, it bothers me to no end the cavalier attitude the show's celebrities take when it comes to safety. They have no qualms about putting a high performance car on the track with no helmet or harness. Every episode I've seen has examples of this. I'm not complaining from some stick-in-the-mud perspective--I've actually put a racecar offroad. (You know you boogered up the apex when you have to clear dirt our of your helmet later.)
In this particular case I would be SERIOUSLY surprised to hear that Hammond wasn't wearing/using EVERY conceivable safety device. That said, I HOPE that the show's producers and drivers put safety first in their more mundane racing segments.

I am a big fan of his for both Top Gear and Brainiac. He is such a charming presenter. I hope that he will be able to make a full recovery. The news is now reporting that he has a significant brain injury, though they weren't specific.
