(
http://www.pandora.com/) Pandora Internet Radio
This is seriously like nothing I've ever seen before. When it loads, it asks you for a band or artist that you like. It then builds a station around that artist and particular genre, adding and taking away songs with not-so-subtle hints provided by the user in the form of thumbs UP or DOWN. There's no selecting of songs, just a rating system that tells it what you want to hear. You get to build your own station. It also breaks down and analyzes tracks, telling you why it played what it did and what similarities it holds with the other songs on that particular station. Oh and you can have as many stations as you want. And they add new songs every day. And I haven't found an artist that's not in there.
Sorry, though, no classical.
Pantera Radio is the fucking shit though.

Yeah we know. We've had a couple of threads about it already and TGGP mentions it in like every other post he makes.
Yeah, it's nifty.

pfft. piece of crap kept telling me I liked disturbed.

Aww, come on, you know you like Disturbed, Bacon.
Come on, get down with the sickness. You mother come on, get down with the sickness... AND DANCE!

Yah - Pandora is the shit. I've found about 10 new artists this year that I really really like and had never heard of. I hope it stays the way it is b/c it's a great mix of the commercial stuff that everyone seems to love (Disturbed for instance), and unknown artists. The quality of the latter never ceases to amaze me.
Bacon - never mind henke. He's just, y'know, fucking around with your narrow scope of reality.

Playing with my... narrow scoper..? Hey! What are you suggesting? At least my idol isn't some bald near-inarticulate squit who would have to get considerably cooler to even be considered equal to Fred Durrrrst. I'm sure pandora is lovely and all that, but I have tested it several times and it has never done a better job than my friends record collections or music magazines. In fact, it practically explodes in a shower of crap every time I put 'Faith No More' into it.
Case in point - tell it you like Final Fantasy, it tells you that you should listen to the fucking Eels. Bah.

So is this better/worse than Last.fm/Audioscrobbler?
Also, just out of curiosity - whats the legality of internet radio?

To be fair, if you like music in general, you should listen to Eels.

But they look and sound like something Louie Theroux did for a laugh.

Yahoo music is so much better. Been listening to yahoo music for about a year now. Discovered heaps of great bands I`d never heard of before, and in the case of others, discovered whole albums of bands I liked years ago, that I never knew were released.
Discovering that Living Colour had continued on after that "love rears its ugly head" song to produce some truelly excellent albums (have a listen to the songs "cult of personality" or "Type"), and to become a heavy metal band. What the. And the first black heavy metal band in history to top that off. They continue to produce music right upto present day, which I hadn`t known either. Not a big fan of their more heavier music, but to discover that they were still producing music was a huge surprise.
Sneaker Pimps was another big surprise. I absolute loved a song by them many years ago called "Six underground" but had not heard anything else from them after that point except for one song with Marilyn Manson + one other song called "Post modern sleaze". I`d assumed they`d ended after that, but they also have continued right onto present day, though with a new male lead singer now rather than the hot brunette chick (Kelly Dayton). They dont sound ANYWHERE near as good with the male singer but they released a couple of good songs (Black sheep, Bloodsport etc).
So yeah in either case. Yahoo music is really good overall.
