Keith, aka Weirdness Abounds, is an online acquaintance of mine and good friend of my brother. It would be great if any of you guys took a look at his story and wrote him a review. Starving writers need support! He can explain what this is about better than I can -

I am a semi-finalist in the Amazon writing contest. That means I'm in the top 800 out of 5000 entries. The title of my book is Electra Lucas: Crisis in Space. It's Science Fiction/Adventure for young adults. (

PLEASE take a look and comment. There's a button marked "Download for Free" on the right side of the screen that lets you read the excerpt. You can then write a review. Advancing to the next level requires that a book receives lots of good reviews. So please pass this note along to anyone you think might be able to help.
I'll be writing up a review of it shortly, myself. I wouldn't be posting this here at all if I didn't think his work was worth reading. Warning - It cuts off abruptly at the end of the sample limit - mid sentence even, so don't expect any type of resolution or even cliffhanger. It's just a brutally cut excerpt. Also warning - this really is intended for young adults, so color your expectations accordingly.

I had a read and a quick look but didn't see but wonder if there's a time limit to posting a review for this. Actually I'm not a science fiction reader but would very much like to know what happens next!!

Okay. Read it. Now I'll digest it and...uh...make a review a little later.
It's HORRIBLE...how the sample gets cut off! But I suppose it's good for gauging the reader's reaction.;)
My humble review has been submitted.

Jason,
Thank you for posting a review for me on Amazon. I meant to thank you last night, but they decided to post the official Publisher's Weekly reviews. Mine was written by a man with a small rodent gnawing at his innards. So I went to bed early.
The truth is that I made it to the semi-finals in spite of that review, so I shouldn't care. If you're bored, you should take a look at it. He claims that I "denounce advanced science" and "the manipulation of thought by the mass media." Huh? What? Where? As I said, the gerbil must have really been bugging him as he wrote the review. Fortunately, the official Amazon reviewer liked it.
I'm up to 38 reviews now, edging me into first place in the 104-entry Science Fiction/Fantasy category. Overall, the most reviewed book has over 100 reviews. The author is a creative writing instructor.
Thank you again, Jason. I really appreciate the help.
Keith
PS - Amazon cut the excerpts at exactly 5000 words. Sorry!

Gosh! Back at you, Keith!:D
That review sounds pretty libelous. I guess he likes his science fiction as hard as he likes his inner gerbil soft, fuzzy, and toothless. Bastage! The thing obviously devoured his inner child.
It's cool that you're doing relatively well, in spite of that guy.
In a way, having it cut off where it was created a kind of cliffhanger, like when your favorite show goes to a commercial break, and you wish you could fast forward through.

I have yet to read one word of your story, but that man's review gave me an erection.

Bloody hell. Is that really Richard Garriott recommending your work, Keith?
Because if it is, I can't not read it now.
Digital Nightfall on 24/1/2008 at 17:21
You're disturbed, Stitch.
And yes, that's actually Richard Garriott. He and Keith are old buddies.

Let me see:
1) Yes, it's Richard.
2) If it continues more than 4 hours, call all your friends
We're up to 43 reviews tonight. I just got approval to distribute fliers about the contest to all the area elementary and middle schools, so that's what I do tomorrow.
