So, in the breakroom at work this week, they had food out every day that was intended for another department. The temptation was great, and I took some of it several days. I also overheard some of my coworkers bragging about how they had taken some.
After a few days, I started to feel guilty and also worry that I would get caught, so I decided I would buy new stuff and put back what I took. A "Reverse thievery" of sorts...
So today I bought: 4 packs of Dorito's, 3 packs of Grandma's chocolate chip cookies, and 6 Diet Mountain Dews.
I had to get them into the building without anybody knowing what it was...
So I bought one of those reusable shopping bags, and put everything in it and tied the top.
Once I walked in work, I went straight to the break room without clocking in yet, and hid the bag in the top of the cabinet.
I went to clock in, and then I knew I had to get to work quickly...
As I was walking down the hallway, someone from another area saw me walk into this breakroom. Would she know!? It was nerve wracking, and the tension was palpable.
I slipped into the room, grabbed the bag out of the cabinet, and got to work. I threw the cookies in the basket, threw the Doritos into the bowl. But the hardest task was next... I laid all 6 Mountain Dews onto the counter. I had to get them into the fridge quickly! Would someone open the door?
My heart was beating rapidly as I placed the Mountain Dews into the fridge. After the last one was in, I slammed the door shut. I hid my bag back into the cabinet.
My work here was done! Reverse Thievery complete, conscience clear :)
But I've always wondered if it would be fun to do "reverse thievery" as a kind act... For example slip a $20 bill into someone's pocket/purse or something like that.
Might be fun/interesting, but the danger here would be they may suspect you of regular thieving, and then you get in trouble.
Anyone else have any similar experiences to share? :D

Closest I get is when my father-in-law pays for dinner. He's such a stingy tipper the wife and I always have to come up with a plan to slip the waiter the balance. It's usually me "slipping off to the bathroom" as we're leaving and tracking down our waiter while the wife heads out to the car with her dad.

It reminds me interactions with one of my old relatives - a great-aunt. She is very poor but proud as well. When my mum, sister, and I come to visit her, she categorically refuses to accept our gifts - let it be home-made food, bought food products, or money. The older she is, the more stubborn she becomes :tsktsk:
So.... When we come to visit her, we try to give her money in a way that she wouldn´t notice it. She is exceptionally observant so she watches our moves for the whole time of our visit. It requires a plan and good cooperation among the three of us. Usually, the great-aunt turns for a couple of seconds away from us to start making coffee. Instantly, mum waves at me. I grab the money out of my pocket and silently put it under the great-aunt´s newspaper - as we know she never looks in it when she has a visit but she reads it carefully and repeatedly when she is alone. I have only few seconds to hide the money - the great-aunt knows our tricks so she is VERY vigilant, and would she find it in front of us, she would force the money back to us, and then kick us out of her flat.
Lately, she started to search through newspaper, while we are there - to make sure that there are no hidden money. This is why we changed out tactic - when one of us goes to the restroom, she - mum, sis, or me - takes the money and hides it in a fridge (it is placed few steps from the restroom and out of the great-aunt´s sight). Last couple of times, she started to check the fridge, though. She is a smart cookie, see :wot:
This is why we finally chose a rather non-Garrett way - when we are leaving and saying byes to her, one of one throws the money at her, and then we immediately sprint out of the building and hurry to the bus stop. She is really old so she cannot catch us. Presumably to keep a bit of dignity, she at least yells out of the window "I´ll kill you! Hear me? I WILL KILL YOU!" at us. Her relationship towards money definitely defies the typical Jewish stereotypes :cheeky:
Always a pleasure to see her, and the "reverse-thieving" is the best part of our visits.

I wonder if anyone here would make a modmission of reverse thieving. Imagine only civillian npcs who would fail mission if they notice you. And you have to place several items in certain places (that you start with or have to take from place to place) without being spotted.

I think there was a christmas FM that had you steal back presents and place them in the houses of some town´s people. Can´t remember the name tough.

For a long time, I had a silly idea for a short/contest mission where you first break into a mansion and steal every piece of loot that's on display there, break out, then have to break back in and put it all back exactly where you found it.

If you KOed everyone in that mansion, the second part would be boring.

It probably would have reawakened / replaced the guards between the two. Could have been a source of some funny guard dialogue the second time around.

I was near a bouncy castle with a bunch of kids on it. They take off their shoes before climbing on it. I thought I'd slip in a few coins for one of the kids into their shoes. She was giggling with joy when she found the surprise. :)
