Having been involved heavily in the recent bandwidth crunch/financial crisis TTLG suffered, I'm on the fence about this issue.... Where we *need* the revenue from the advertising banners to help keep the sites alive, personally I too, HATE these popups... and refuse to click them because they piss me off . So, in effect no revenue is lost by my disabling these stupid popups...
[EDIT]
After reading Digi's post, I realized that I was in error, that disabling the popups *does* mean less $ for TTLG, and therefore have removed my "fix" instructions. Sorry 'bout that :)
For the record, if it helps any... We all HATE those stoopid popups, unfortunately they are a neccesary evil <IMG SRC="mad2.gif" border="0">
[/EDIT]
Please, do your part to help out by clicking banners now and then :)

Actually money is lost.
Considering that we earn from both views and clicks. You don'thave to click them for it to count... but clicking makes it cound 10X more.
[EDIT]
Thanks Msledd. :)
And yes, I hate the popups too, and can't imagine how frustrating it must be for people who has systems the popups will crash. It's just one of those things that life throws at you and you have to deal with it one day at a time.

Hi Digital Nightfall
OK, I'm here where this topic belongs. You saw my other post in Deus Ex (your "spoiler" thread) so I have removed it and will simply state here for the record that, as you know, I am one of those people whose sytems are crashed/frozen by the popups.
You might want to edit out your response over there so you don't look like you are talking to yourself :)
And before anyone says it, I *do* have JavaScript disabled and ActiveX on prompt mode. All my security settings are customized by me. The problem is something else - sloppiness on the part of the advertisers, incompatibility with my virus shield (which I will NOT disable), incompatibility with my cookie filter (which I will NOT disable), etc.
I really like this site, but will have to stop coming here. I'm taking a risk just being here this time, so I've posted rather a lot, since I don't know when I'll be able to come here again. The last popup-freeze was so bad I feared I'd have to reinstall my browser, it was so messed up. Fortunately, rebooting fixed the situation, but... :(

If only it was possible (... stops typing to close evil popup ... actually there were twin popups this time ...) that it was the same popup window each time, instead of one new for each page browsed, we might eventually let them alone, which would mean that they would eventually get the time to be downloaded, which would mean that we would be able to actually have a look at them (which is better advertising).

I love that "TTLG" ad banner at the bottom of the page. :)

OK, I'm writing this reply in notepad, and using copy and paste to get it across. Which is kind of ironic given one of the points of my post.
Yep, I've also had a few browser problems with this site in the past few weeks, and not from anywhere else. Don't know specifically if it is one of the pop-up's but given replies above I suspect it might be.
Ads I can accept, and have indeed posted here earlier, a necessary evil. I for one certainly would rather not see them, and whilst I have clicked on a fair few in my time at various sites, certainly as yet failing to be persuaded to part with cash as a direct or indirect result of one, or even just to visit their site on a more regular basis. But I digress a little.
I really should go and find one of those pop-up killer I guess, and spend the time whilst that downloads to wonder why the hell IE doesn't contain something which disables them as standard. They seem to have dropped the <blink> command, which surely must be from popular demand.
Given that pop-ups must be considered one of the most annoying things around the net, seemingly universal loathed (unlike regular ads, which providing they don't plaster the whole screen, can be grudgingly accepted, and even clicked on), I guess the quaestion has to be asked why to advertisers persist on using them? If I were selling something I wouldn't want to go round irritating potential customers, and similarly for overtly gaudy regular ads.
I do visit a few sites on my travels, but this one is the only one I go back to on [at least] a semi-regular basis that I really have a particular dislike for the ads.
