I like that "OLD!" in the top left corner. :D

I'm a subscriber of Retro Gamer (awesome magazine for 'old', nostalgic gamers like myself). Now I'm looking forward to getting that issue in my mailbox next week \:D/

I absolutely love Retro Gamer magazine. Has really facinating reviews on old consoles and games. Some you`ve not heard of, most you have. But its an excellent read just the same. The only gaming mag I buy nowadays.

Likewise, it's the only gaming mag I read these days. However due to my location in the world, I'm forced to purchasing back issues annually via eBay, as their subscription service has proven to be dodgy for me in the past.
I've also noticed on more than one occasion that their fact-checking department is not up to snuff. It's not nice picking up a copy of Retro Gamer that contains an article on your favourite game of yesteryear, only to find out that they didn't get all the facts right - and sometimes these are very basic facts. It's almost like they didn't bother to play the game at all.
The System Shock 2 article will be an excellent "measurement stick" to see if this practice has been eliminated. We'll see.

Well they`ve done reviews of other all time favorite games of mine like Doom/Doom 2, Quake, The Command and Conquer + Red Alert serieses, Shadowrun series etc. All of these were done quite well with nothing I really objected to. They do tend to cover alot of systems and games from before I even existed or atleast properly got into gaming (the Atari 2600 and onwards was where it started for me) but that comes with the territory.

I've read the article already, and it's pretty decent. They also talk about the original Shock (calling it 'The Half Life 2 of its time in many ways'), the Thief series, Deus Ex, and the legacy of System Shock 2. I just can't share their enthusiasm about Bioshock, but that's a different story (I suppose I'm part of what they call a "minority of System Shock purists blindly criticising it for the parallels that can be drawn between the two games").
I like the ending sentence of the article, although I doubt that it could be anything more than wishful thinking:
"And for the future, titles like Bioshock 2, System Shock 3, Deus Ex 3, Thief 4 and beyond will all owe something to that talented Looking Glass/Irrational duo and the prodigious game they created."

Can this magazine be purchased on the stands? Maybe at a video game shop? Thanks.

I don't get it. SS1 had a coherent story...
