Okay, I know if an attribute gets drained you can use a potion, or cast a restore spell. But what about skills? I've lost some points off destruction (the number byit is in red, so definitely drained) and I'm buggered if I can find a way to bring them back. There doesn't seem to be any kind of "restore skill" spell - I've tried asking around the mage guilds without much luck, and also grabbing every blessing I can find off tribunal shrines. No joy so far.

I wasn't aware this could happen without the sword Fury (and the effect be permanent.) If your on PC, dowload the latest patch. If you're on XBox, you're screwed. You'll have to dish out some money to train your destruction spell back up.
Destruction's Secret Master is Leles Birian, east of Piernette's Farmhouse (which is east of Pelagiad.) You'll find her eventually.
Thanks for the info. I have a sneaking feeling that the Sanguine Ring or Red (something or other) is resposible, as its the only item I've used lately that puts a bonus onethe Destruction skill... maybe it applies some kind of delayed effect penalty as well?

Nope, "Red Wisdom" just means destruction. Using Sanguine items does not mean that you will have a negative effect later.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but this happened to me too.
I think I know what caused it too. There's a spell cast by nasties which drains your destruction skill. It's a temporary effect, so the skill returns to normal afterwards. HOWEVER, if you have the Sanguine Ring of Red Wisdom equipped, the value it is restored to is NOT the enhanced value (ie base score + 5) but is only equal to the base value with the ring equipped. So when you unequip the ring, your Destruction skill is 5 less than it should be.
The same thing happens with item-boosted attributes too, but they're easy to restore with spells or potions. Since there's no Restore Skill spell in the game, anyone know of any way I can restore my skill? Maybe using the console?

There is a console command you can use, but unfortunately it won't reset to the base value, so you have to know what the unaffected value for your destruction skill. Once you remember what that was (or should be ;) ) you may type at the console: player->setdestruction, x

I think there is a restore skill out of game, which can be used only by console means. But I can't look that up...

Well, it's 46 atm, so I guess it should be 51
tbh, I ain't so bothered about getting the skill points back... but that red text is just so damn annoying when you can't do anything about it

player->setdestruction, 51
