My thoughts are that I don't care much for princesses or frogs, but I just saw an ad on TV which says the Pixar's original Toy Story is coming back to the cinema in 3D-3D (if you see what I mean), and I'm sorely tempted.

You are a sad, strange little man. And you have my pity. Farewell. ;)
Seriously, though. that's pretty cool.

Must've watched Aladdin 20 times and knew the songs by heart.
Same here. Aladdin has some of the best songs ever featured in a movie.

I have to say, aside from Whole New World, Aladdin didn't have my favorites. The Hunchback of Notre Dame had two favorites (the opening sequence and "Hellfire"), Lion King had almost all the songs as favorites for me, The Little Mermaid had "Under the Sea", and "Beauty and the Beast" from that one movie whose name I can't recall. There are many more, but those sprung foremost to my mind.
In contrast, I found I couldn't even understand the lyrics in a lot of the Aladdin songs. For instance, in "One Step Ahead," there were a number of parts where I couldn't quite catch what he was saying, and the Genie's "Friend Like Me" song is almost unintelligible to me. I like Aladdin 3's "Party Here in Agrava" a lot more than most of those (in no small part due to some hilarious references in that scene: "And you are?" "I'm Thor." "You're Thor?" "... Well, it hurts.")
Speaking of Princesses, Pixar is working on its first movie with a female main character (a princess, to boot). As has been said, Toy Story 1 and 2 are coming out this year in 3D to remind the audience of what has come before, while Toy Story 3 will come out next year. Then, in 2011, we'll see Cars 2 (a puzzling choice, since people pretty much unanimously agree Cars was Pixar's worst movie, which is saying a lot--maybe they just want another chance to get it right?), which will be double-featured with The Bear and the Bow, a movie set in a Scottish setting with various Scottish mythology (which I highly approve of, as Celtic folklore, aside from such things as the Brothers Grimm, is often overlooked in fantasy films).
I know that I've read a number of articles wherein people have complained about how Pixar is a "boy's-only" party, which I completely don't understand. I don't know about these people, but when I was young, I didn't see Symba, Aladdin, etc. as rolemodels, I saw them as just interesting characters in an interesting story. Can you think of any Pixar movies where, if the main character had been female instead of male, it would have improved, or even been as good, as if they were male?
I've done some roleplaying, writing, etc., and character gender is almost never an issue for me. I can pretty much always tell whether a character will be female or male based on personality traits, and not necessarily with females being weaker and males stronger, or males gruffer and females more delicate. Instead, it's about what traits will allow one to empathize most with characters.
In any case, what are your thoughts about Pixar making their first princess? How about them having their first female lead? Is it really that big of a deal?
And, on the topic of this thread, what do you think you like and what do you think you dislike about what you've seen of this film in the trailer? For me, I already like the villain, as he seems to be a well-make conman. On the other hand, I already dislike the side-kicks, the gay-looking alligator and the crude firefly that reminds me of that really ugly guy in Mulan who was the emperor's counselor, Chi-Fu (the guy of whom Yao says, "the only one who'd love him is his mother.").

That's one of them, though I didn't like it as much before my romantic side began surfacing. My favorites back then (and still now) are, ironically enough, "One Jump Ahead" and "Friend Like Me", mostly because of the catchy tune and visuals. "Arabian Nights" is good too (I heard it acoustically on the Boardwalk yesterday, in fact).

Only saw Hunchback once or twice a very long time ago, so I don't remember any songs from it. The Lion King has wonderful music as well; the cheery "Hakuna Matata" and "Can't Wait to be King" and the haunting "Be Prepared".
The only song I can recall liking from The Little Mermaid is "Under the Sea". "Kiss the Girl" came along later. But again, I haven't seen it as much.

You are joking, right?
"Beauty and the Beast" was excellent, but again, it's one I didn't fully appreciate until after puberty. "Belle" was cute and fun. "Gaston" was fun too, but in a darker sort of way. "Something There" is sweet. "Be Our Guest" is also quite wonderful; I still have Lumière's solo parts completely memorized.

I'll grant you that. For me at that age, it was more about the music and the beat; if I couldn't understand the lyrics, it didn't matter as much. Now, I can appreciate the lyrics as well.

Heh heh. Also a good one. And it's Agrabah, by the way. And Simba. :)

Don't worry, I just use it to exercise my imagination. That way, I can envision insulting people that I meet on the 'net as being scrawny outcasts with pink tutus and a drool cup.
