frozenman's on the money. The last 'classic' Disney feature was The Lion King, which aroused some amount of (fake/flaky) controversy involving dust clouds spelling out the word 'sex', and also contained a scene with a lioness featuring the most explicit come hither look (true) ever committed to celluloid.
But then again, the quality of your average modern Disney animation feature precludes anything else about it from being half as entertaining, so there's the real reason why.
Not to mention the whole flap where some people were convinced that the hyenas represented urban American blacks.

Really, deth? I hadn't heard that one. What a load... They don't even have accents. The hyenas were cool.
Enchantermon on 25/9/2009 at 00:23
The irony of this is that one of them was voiced by Whoopi Goldberg.

Shenzi (or however that's spelled--the sophisticated one)? Damn... I never realized that. It wasn't until I (accidentally) saw some Lion King porn that I realized one of the hyenas was female to begin with. I just figured it was a very smooth-voiced guy.

Calling Whoopi Goldberg smooth-voiced is like, well like calling something abrasive and harsh smooth, thats what it is

Spelled correctly. And yes, that one. I didn't know it was her until I saw The Lion King 1 1/2; before that, the last time I saw The Lion King was when I was too young to know who Whoopi Goldberg was.

This trailer looks pretty horrible, a throwback to an era of mediocre family cinema that Pixar blessedly killed off. I'm glad they're bringing back traditional animation, but they could have left the other dated trappings--musical numbers, anyone?--in the past where they belong.
No, man, I loved the musical numbers when I was a kid. Must've watched Aladdin 20 times and knew the songs by heart. Possibly the first songs I ever learned were songs in Disney movies. Disney movies were also where I learned the concept of "quality", when trying to figure out why they were so much better than other cartoons. Also, I'm drunk off my ass right now.

Pretty much the nature of the beast nowadays, any remotely stereotypical portrayal of a cartoon character leads to cries of "racism!".
People need to realize that a lot of time has passed between now and then, when we had things like this:

Traditional animation is cool, but isn't "The Princess and the Frog" quite bloody boring position to start from? I mean, they spiced up the story, but I am not sure, if something like that could be anywhere as interesting as Wall-E for example.
