When I try to startup T2X, the following message appears:
"Resolution in cam.cfg does not match that given in ddfix.ini"
Apart from this message being false (both ddfix and cam state a resolution of 1280x1024), it prevents me from playing T2X.
Can anyone help me out?

I have not used ddfix together with T2X, so I don't know what really is wrong there. But I remember that the original Thief games only allowed a maximum resolution of 1024x768 for me, so perhaps you should try that. Whether "standard Thief 2" offers more than 1024x768 for people equipped with newer computers I do not know.
Try 1024x768 and perhaps 800x600 (if you're desperate). If both don't work, the problem lies somewhere else.
A second thought... how many .EXE files are new in T2X? Does the T2X game actually use the standard .EXE which Thief 2 uses? If it does not, that would explain why there are problems.

T2X uses the same executable as Thief2. Only difference is the "Start In" folder set in the shortcut. So make sure the config files in the "t2x" folder are setup correctly too.
Personally I've got no experience with ddfix, but I'm sure T2X should be able to run using the same resolutions that Thief2 can, since apart from the starting folder there's no real difference between the two.

Is ddfix set up in the T2X directory as well as the Thief2 directory? From what i have heard it needs to be in both.

This is not correct for others, though (presumably your screen's maximum resolution is 1024x768).
Thief 2 supports a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. And you can use any resolution you if you install (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121449) the 'widescreen' fix.

Thief 2 supports a maximum resolution of 1280x1024.
Now that you mention that, I recognize that I seldom had a graphics card
and a monitor at the same time which both supported 1280x1024. Guess I haven't seen that resolution among the ones in Thief's list too often.

Any modern graphics card should support it?
Monitors are another matter, though - especially widescreen ones which not be able to reach a height of 1024.

Tried putting ddfix in t2x, and I got a step further.
T2X starts up, I'm getting a black screen and I'm hearing ocean's sounds. After that the game crashes to desktop.
I tried installing the widescreen mod in the T2X directory, but during the installation it gave an ERROR-message.
Do you guys think I have to uninstall widescreen from Thief2 somehow?

What you're describing sounds like a broken darkinst.cfg file in the t2x folder.
To fix it:
Open the darkinst.cfg file in the t2x folder and change it to the following, but make sure the cd_path (marked in red) points to your own CD drive:
Code:
cd_path
d:\install_path ..\
language english
resname_base +..\res
load_path
script_module_path +..
movie_path movies

A lot of my hardware is somewhere in the "from old to ancient" range. And while most graphics cards I use for Thief are modern enough to do 1280x1024, the two monitors which could really display that have died. Not that I ever needed more than 1024x768, and certainly not for Thief.
But apparently, Goatrider's problem lies somewhere else anyway.
